Forgiveness Does Not Produce Life

Synopsis

So often when people grow up in a church background, error is being taught. There are those teachings that keep us bound under law, by the mixing of law and grace, preventing people from walking freely in the new life God has given to those who have believed. Then there are those teachings that are serious doctrinal error. Many a person has walked down an aisle to receive forgiveness of sins, for that is what they have been taught. So the doctrine of salvation is taught in error.

Salvation is not getting your sins forgiven and that is it. Romans 5:10 and Ephesians 1:7 are key verses that, understood in context, explain this more clearly what Jesus accomplished for us, in what salvation is. When you were His enemies, lost, you were reconciled. How? By his death on a cross. How was what provided for then, at the cross, received? In Him. In Him, you have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Synopsis

So often people trust the words of their pastor or some person. He could be Calvin or MacArthur or your baptist preacher or your Presbyterian preacher, or your Catholic priest, and you would just trust what they tell you as true. After all, he went to seminary, you think. Or he got trained under 2000 years of church history just like the Jews did, for they had Moses as their teacher. But have you ever stopped to think if what they are saying is true? If you are born again, who is living in you? What did he promised you? That he would guide you into all truth. How do you suppose he is going to do that? If you are born again, did you know that you have the mind of Christ, the ability to discern the things of God and make judgments about all things?

Bob George sometimes received calls from people who have a general question concerning a scripture that seems out of place and does not make sense in reference to the totality of other scriptures. They call to ask Bob for his understanding. Bob addressed a question by Larry to explain Mark 16:6. Sometimes just common sense can get you through a scripture’s intended meaning. We should not drink poison or drink poison thinking we will not be harmed. Bob also explained how a translation can have a passage that is not in the original manuscripts and to take that into consideration when studying God’s word.

Other times people call just to thank Bob for resources received to share with others so as to grow and be encouraged in the faith. Looking closely at transition words like “Therefore” are clues to the theme or purpose of writing. However, punctuation and chapter divisions can be put in the wrong places. Oftentimes people form incorrect doctrines out of the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and the book of Acts, which are historical recording of events that happened but are not for forming doctrine. The epistles of Paul, like his letter to Ephesians, contain doctrine, yet even then wrong conclusions are drawn. The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but people are tested by the praise they receive.

Many callers today called to thank Bob George for explaining truth. Bob responded in such grace and shared how he was in the crucible of testing throughout his ministry. Bob shared with humility and reiterated the main point that truth is what sets us free and error is what binds us, and really not any more complicated than that. Bob admitted where he did not know something and showed a teachable and humble spirit. For he himself, as we all are, are growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
