When we are born again, we have become a new creation. As we study God’s word, letting the Spirit reveal truth to us, we just cannot help but thank God for His amazing grace, with total unconditional acceptance and love. We have truly been made complete in Christ. All of us have been taught things, error from our former life, that often carry with us in our new life in Christ until our minds are renewed with truth. Many times we can remain in error for much of our life because we fail to study God’s word or remain in a church that reinforces false teaching. So many people get caught up in the burden of having to tithe, as if tithing is for today. They are told that if they are not tithing they are robbing God. Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P32 (01-21-19)

Synopsis

As we read in Romans 8, there is life in the Spirit. Formerly, the mind of the lost person was hostile to God. We do not naturally think of ourselves as hostile to God, but we are. The law is set against us and so we would rather plead ignorance. Then we can at least plead ignorance. But if we are properly trained by the law to lead us to Christ, then the law served its purpose to convince us that we are dead and in need of life.

We used to live according to the flesh, when we were lost, because that is all we had. But then when we were born again, the Spirit of God came to indwell us. We were set free from the law of sin and death because in our weak state we were never able to live up to the demands of the law. The Spirit of life came to live in us to produce love in and through us, as we learn to trust God.

One common question that gets asked quite often is about how the law of Moses applies to us today. Well, if you are a lost person, then it still applies to you to lead you to Christ, for that is the purpose of the law. The law was added so man might recognize he is a sinner, and then understand his condition of death to God, so that he might to Christ to receive new life. Otherwise, the cross of Christ has no meaning to him. The law of Moses was written on stone and is a ministry of death and condemnation. That is, the law is like a mirror, to tell you what your problem is. Although it was glorious, though fading, it does not compare to the glorious ministry of righteousness that Jesus gives to those who are born again. For those who have been born again, the law of Moses does not apply. None of it. Not the ten commandments and not the ceremonial laws or any other laws. Why? There is nothing that has overtaken you except what is common to man. Depression and addictions of all kinds are common to man. That does not mean everybody will be addicted to alcohol or cocaine, but the root problem is the same. Brokenness and sin manifests itself in people in different ways. No matter what condition you are in, Christ Jesus is who you really need. Are you depressed? What do you think causes depression? It really stems from a thinking problem. You are thinking about the bad things that happened yesterday, or even projecting what life will be like tomorrow, and your feelings naturally follow. At times, such depression will lead to other thinking issues and other areas of addiction, such as alcohol or cocaine. And what do people naturally do? They compare themselves with others, assuming others have it all together. The truth of the matter is, nobody has it all together. Religion also compounds the problem, making demands of you, that you could never meet. That also leads to frustration. Some respond by giving up. It cannot be emphasized enough to study the bible on your own, allowing the Holy Spirit to teach you. That is the only way you can be certain that you are hearing truth. It is common among the world today for people to rely on what their favorite teacher says as true, whether it be Bob George, John MacArthur, Calvin or Luther, or whoever you happen to esteem. But, how do you know if they are teaching you correctly? They might be but they might not be. How would you know? Recognize also that cults, such as the Catholics and the Mormons today, the legalists, like the Jews the apostle Paul confronted in Galatia, and the gnostics confronted by the apostle John, will twist scripture in teaching men. So many have been led astray by such teaching. But, if you, who have the Spirit in you, and have grown in discernment, be on guard and recognize error when you hear it. Every now and then, someone calls, asking how to be saved. Wayne had been listening to Classic Christianity Radio about the condition of the heart. He knew he was not saved and wanted to be saved. So he asked to call about how he can be saved. Listen as Bob George explains the good news of the gospel. In summary, salvation is being saved from the consequences of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is the resurrected life of Christ Jesus. You place your faith in what Christ Jesus alone accomplished for you through his death, burial and resurrection.
