What is the True Gospel?

Many topics of conversation came up in today’s program. These topics of conversation are extremely relevant for today. There are so many pastors that have huge church followings for prosperity gospel teachings. This is not the gospel! And that is where we begin today.

The first caller, Ken called from Frisco Texas. He had a question about searching for a church in their area. Also, he noticed that a lot of the pastors taught the prosperity gospel. In addition to that he wanted to know Bob’s opinion on the husband and wife team being lead pastors at a church.

Bob explains out of the Book of 1 Timothy chapter 6 in regards to these false teachers that preach a prosperity gospel is of a corrupt mind.

Synopsis

As you study the scriptures, hold onto those things that are true. Do not let more obscure passages lead you into confusion and error. Let us not forget that the goal of instruction is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. The only thing that counts is faith that expresses itself in love.

There are scriptures that are very clear, such as the gospel, that requires faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and nothing added to that, nothing that you do, but what God alone has done for you in Christ Jesus. Hold onto that truth, that in Christ Jesus, you are a forgiven person, and that you have eternal life because of the eternal consequence of the cross, with His righteousness imputed to you. You must have a firm grasp on such truth. Be single-minded on that, and do not be double-minded, mixing law and grace, or doubting that Jesus took away all your sins, thinking that He only took away some of your sins. The Jews have been taught all their life from the Old Testament scriptures by the rabbis, but many of the religious leaders in their day did not understand the purpose of the law. They taught the laws as a means of righteousness. They also added traditions of men, which God never approved, and which Jesus pointed out their error. How hard it is for people today to receive truth, when they have been taught wrong from their religious traditions, whether Catholic, Protestant or Jewish. You do not know you are taught wrong. You hear an explanation from a Protestant or Catholic religious leader, but you do not know why Jesus died, was buried and rose again, for you.

Synopsis

Many times callers call into the Classic Christianity radio to get answers to common questions, get clarifications or Bob’s thoughts on things they have heard from others, things that just does not sound right or the practical application of living in the new life you have in Christ Jesus. Many times, when you have a basic foundation in truth, these questions can easily be answered. If you know that you are under a New Covenant system of grace and not under the Old Covenant or law, and you know what salvation is, and what Jesus accomplished for you by his death, burial and resurrection, most of these questions can be answered.
