Synopsis

So what does the word of God do for us? It teaches us, corrects us, reproves us, trains us. It can be likened to a yg teenager learning to drive a car. You get back on the road when you are corrected. The word is like that in correcting our way of thinking, by renewing our mind on what truth is. It helps form policies in our minds in regard to the truth that the Spirit of God living in us has made known to us through His word. It changes our attitudes and forms our character to be like Christ’s in our relationships with people, as we depend on Him. The word of God is like food to our spirit as food is to our physical bodies. That is how we live, by hanging onto every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Some people think we need to learn to think positively, especially as we live in such a world full of negative things we hear about every day, especially whenever we turn on the television or read news headlines. Synopsis

As you research about how the bible came to be, you marvel at how it came together. People from forty different walks of life, across several continents, across a vast span of time, yet all the books we know as the bible today, have one consistent theme. They all point to the person of Jesus Christ, from Genesis, describing the creation of the world and the fall of man, to about 2000 years ago, to the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, to the final book written through the apostle John, in the book of Revelation, describing future events yet to be fulfilled, that all of scripture testifies of God’s redemption of fallen mankind through the person of Jesus Christ.

Then you read the scriptures, of what scripture itself testifies of how the bible came to be written down, of how God spoke in various ways through the prophets of the Old Testament, through dreams and visions and numerous ways, and then how He spoke to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. These were not words of men, ideas that men came up with. It seems in today’s church world or religious world, people do not know what it means to rest. It seems people are either working for their salvation, which is an impossibility, or are trying to double up their efforts in the church to be certain they are pleasing to God. The first question to be asked is, “Do you know what salvation is?” That is where you start. Do you know the totality of the cross, what is accomplished for you and me? Do you know the meaning of the resurrection? Do you know if you are made complete in Christ, being made a child of God, with a new identity, with the Spirit of God living in you? Have you entered the Sabbath rest as spoken about in Hebrews?

And as you come to Christ, realize that you still have sin-indwelling flesh. You are not going to perfect your flesh, or make it better. No, you overcome your flesh by the Spirit, by loving one another. But love is not something you conjure up. Sometimes we can get off focus on what is really important in life, what God has called us to do in regard to being fishers of men, to reach out with love and truth for the souls of men. We can spend endless hours trying to figure out end time prophecies, and as interesting as that might be, the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Yes, we should read Revelation and not avoid it, but everything in proper perspective. God’s word certainly tells us that anyone who reads the words of the prophecy and takes it to heart what is written in it is blessed. So He certainly wants us to read it with that in mind. God wants us prepared but not scared.

Then there is our neighbor or relative who does not know Christ. If you got a call from a friend, who at one time in his life rejected God, or even mocked the things of God, but all of a sudden there is a change in attitude in him. Synopsis

Is the bible relevant for today? Are there contradictions? What evidence do you have that it can be trusted, that it is the word of God, truth that will set us free? Have you found the bible to be useful for doctrine, correction, reproof and training in righteousness?

We have heard the testimony of God concerning His word. We have read what the apostles, the eyewitnesses of the risen Savior have said. We have read what the prophets had to say, and how truth was revealed to them through dreams and visions and various and sundry ways. But today, we have heard truth for ourselves through the Holy Spirit He has given us. Today, there is no new revelation. The Lord has spoken to us through His Son.

So what is the condition of your heart? Until the Spirit of God reveals truth to you, you are not going to understand it anyway. All the persuasiveness of man combined is not going to challenge a hard heart, a heart that does not want to receive truth from the word of God.
