Agree With God 1 John 1 9

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Finality of The Cross P24 (09-29-21)

Understanding 1 John 1:9

Listen as Bob George provides the proper context of 1 John 1:9, as that is the most misquoted and misunderstood passage of scripture. Many people think this scripture is written to believers, and think it means that, as Christians, when we sin, we need to confess that sin to God in order to either get back in relationship or back in fellowship with God. There are those who think you can lose salvation and those who think you can get out of fellowship with God, that somehow God is so mad at you because of sinning that you do. It’s important to understand that anything that does not come from faith is sin (Romans 14:23) and the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

First of all, this passage is a letter written by a pastor to a mixed audience of lost and saved people. In particular, there were Gnostics among them bringing their heretical teaching. The Gnostics do not believe Jesus is God come in the flesh because they have this teaching of dualism, that all matter is evil and … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Understanding Forgiveness in Light of the Full Gospel and the New Covenant

Without understanding the New Covenant we live under today, that can hinder us from properly interpreting scriptures. It is like you are trying to understand a doctrine, such as forgiveness, in isolation, and so you have tunnel vision, and come to incorrect conclusions. For example, how do you understand a passage such as this one?

Matthew 6:14-15
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

And then, how do you explain a passage in the New Covenant, such as this one?

Colossians 3:13
13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Are those passages contradicting each other? Are you forgiven of all your sins or not? If I fail to forgive my brother, then will God not forgive me today? Those are the kinds of questions commonly asked upon reading … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus Redeemed Us

Understanding Forgiveness in Light of the Full Gospel, in Light of What God Accomplished in Christ for Us, to Live Under a New Covenant of Grace, as a Complete Person, with the Spirit of God Living in Us

Join Bob George as he teaches about the grace of God.

How many times do we see people stream down the aisles in order to receive Christ where their only understanding was I am going to come down to keep from going to hell? Then you leave that experience like you would on the day of atonement feeling good, but then the big question comes. What happens when I sin tomorrow or on the way back to the pew? I went forward and got my sins forgiven, but I just sinned on the way back to the pew. Then there is someone who will quote 1 John 1:9 as necessary to stay in fellowship with God, that you must ask God to forgive you when you sin. In other words, you just negated what you did at the altar. The reason for that is because we are looking … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

The Truth of 1 John 1:9

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Finality of The Cross P21 (09-22-21)

The Bigger Picture of the Cross: In Him, We Have Redemption, the Forgiveness of Sins, and Eternal Life

Why is it that certain passages of scriptures are interpreted incorrectly? Passages like 1 John 1:9 are one of those passages.

1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

It seems people will have tunnel vision on one passage and ignore all the rest of the passages where truth is clearly understood in light of the bigger picture of what Jesus accomplished. We are nit-picking a verse instead of seeing that the event of the cross took care of the interpretation of that verse, if you will let it.

As we recall that Jesus fulfilled the law because we could not do it, then died on a cross to pay the price of death for the sins of the entire world, a death no other man could pay, and then rose again, to offer us new life, called eternal life, that there is no way we could ever achieve. Hold on to What is Unshakeable and True, Christ Alive Living in You

As you go through life experiences and reflect on life, there are more and more questions that you ask. You never stop growing. If you escaped the horrors of Vietnam or World War II, or had to start all over after the devastation of a tornado or a hurricane, even losing a loved one, you may have asked many questions while trying to hold onto whatever you can call life. Common questions asked are “Where is God?” or “Why is there such evil in this world?” or “Why did God allow this to happen?”

There are all kinds of people in this world who face all kinds of challenges in life. Maybe you have not experienced love or grace in a church environment, unlike others you hear about who seem to just express how much they just love their church family. Others have grown up without a father for their mother had to flee from an abusive husband as far away as she could to a place of safety. They had to leave a loving supporting church family … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Look at The Finality of the Cross

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Finality of The Cross P5 (08-17-21)

Recognize your condition of death that you might come alive in Christ Jesus

Many of us have grown up in some sort of religion where we at least heard about God and something about Jesus. And one topic you will almost always hear about is forgiveness of sins. Yet, sadly that is also a topic that can also be a controversial topic! Why is that? God gave His word so we may know the truth on such a foundational issue, the issue of sin that caused our death. And the more serious problem is that we are all born dead spiritually. And the crux of the matter is, because of our condition since birth, there is no one who seeks God. We may know about God. We may know He is the Son of God yet not know what that means. We may even know something about the fact that Jesus died on a cross. In many churches, you will see a statue of Jesus nailed on a cross. But you have no idea of the significance of why Jesus came to this earth to die … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
