Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 77 (09-25-19)

Synopsis

In the gospel of John, near the end of Jesus life on earth, Jesus is providing comfort and instruction to his disciples. He tells them he is going away. Because he tells them that they are filled with grief. But he is explaining that he will send them the Holy Spirit, who will live in them and be in them forever. They are not able to understand these things, and Jesus told them that. The reason that they could not understand is because it is not until Pentecost when they receive the Holy Spirit.

That is true of all us until we are born again. It is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. You know what a piece of the puzzle looks like real well, maybe 4 or 5 pieces together. But until you put the whole puzzle together, you are missing something. The Holy spirit will lead you and guide you into all truth. God wants us to be born again, and start with the milk of the word. Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the 16^th chapter of John. Jesus came to speak truth into the hearts of men. Sadly, even today, not everyone receives truth. The Jews today deny Jesus is the Messiah. They rejected him as the promised Messiah, whom the prophets told was to come into this world to take away sins. Most Jews today do not even know the bible. They hardly know anything except the Passover and things you celebrate, but nothing about Moses, yet they all agree that Jesus is not God. You have the Muslims who would rather believe Mohammad over the words of Jesus, and even think they are doing a service to God by killing Jews and Christians. You have the atheist, who is a fool, saying there is no God. You have the mystics who say that truth does not really matter. “Just love one another”, they say, yet fail to realize that it is impossible to love perfectly as God demonstrated His love to us. We are going to pick up in the 15^th chapter of John. We will be discussing how the Christian life is to be lived. Again, we cannot live Christ’s life for Him. We have to allow Him to live His life in and through us. When we do not understand that truth, we come to Christ, and with no less than a noble effort, we go and seek out a life we cannot live. We go out and struggle and strain, but we cannot go out and live a life Christ told us to live. We must allow Him to live it in and through us. The illustration He gave us on that is the parable of the vine and the branches. There is no greater illustration of it than this. He says, “I am the vine”. The vine is the source of the fruit. You are the branch. We bear the fruit but only the vine can supply the fruit. There is a bondage between the two. Jesus is saying, ’I want us to work together. We are so prone to follow for what He can give us. They followed him when he fed the five thousand. Why? The next day Jesus said to them, “The only reason you are following me is because you were fed on the other side of the lake”.

I have seen this again and again so many times in people today. In church work, working down on the streets, a guy says, “Give me a meal. What do I need to do? Get baptized. Lead me to the water”. So he gets baptized to get a meal and not to get Jesus. Thousands of times people take advantage of that to get numbers to their credit. The only reason they went to the water was to get a meal and not to get Jesus. You have to have discernment on that kind of thing to determine if they are sincere or just following you to get a meal. That is one of the dangers of just giving a meal. All you have accomplished is satisfying someone’s hunger for a couple of hours. You have not accomplished anything.

We will pick up where we left off last week. Let us start at the 14^th chapter of John, beginning at verse 25.

John 14:25-31
²⁵ “All this I have spoken while still with you. ²⁶ But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. ²⁷ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
²⁸ “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. ²⁹ I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. ³⁰ I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, ³¹ but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 62 (08-21-19)

Synopsis

Jesus is speaking to the Jews and is speaking about a very important truth concerning himself. Jesus came to speak truth into our hearts so that we might believe and be saved. But the work of the Spirit is so vital for men to be saved. No one can understand the meaning of the word of God apart from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals truth to men.

The seed of truth is planted in the hearts of men, men who are born dead, dead to understanding the things of God. But if the seed falls on humble souls, they accept that what Jesus says is true. They realize that what they are doing is not working. They come to realize they are dead and are looking for the meaning to life. When they hear truth about the life in Christ, they readily believe the truth when they hear it.

We are God’s servants, sewing the seed of God’s word, but God causes the growth through His word. They accept His offer of eternal life, having repented of trusting in whatever else they were trusting in to have life, and receive the very life of Christ, the Holy Spirit sealed in them the moment they believe.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
