A Righteousness From God

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P6 (10-30-19)

Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the key passage of Romans 1:16-17. In the gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed that is by faith from first to last, and is the power of God unto salvation for all who will believe. When you believe the gospel, accept Christ as your life, you are able to communicate with the living God, to know His love and to know and love Him. There are only two types of righteousness, self righteousness, which is really no righteousness at all, and God’s righteousness. The righteousness of God is revealed by the Holy Spirit, who is drawing all men to Himself.

If a man thinks he has righteousness of his own, by what he does or fails to do, then he is only comparing himself with others. Only two things can occur. You see yourself as better or worse than someone else. You are either puffed up in pride or are overcome with self condemnation. Either way, you are bound by deception and enslaved to sin. That is really what happens in religion. You have to have rules and regulations, and that just keeps you in deception and bondage.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

You Were Born Forgiven

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P5 (10-29-19)

Synopsis

Bob George is camping on Romans 1:16-17, the key to understanding the book of Romans. Paul is saying he is not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone, first for the Jew, but for both the Jew and the Gentile. In the gospel, a righteousness of God is revealed. This righteousness is a gift from God, received by faith.

Now, what kind of questions should be asked? What is the gospel? Why is Paul not ashamed of the gospel? What is salvation? What is righteousness, and what is this righteousness specifically from God? Are they different? How is this righteousness revealed? How is this righteousness received by faith? What is faith? Faith in what? In who?

Many a person has asked these kinds of questions. Why am I here? What will happen to me when I die? Why can I not do the things I want to do and the very things I hate to do, I do anyway? Why am I empty inside? These kinds of questions are asked because man is born spiritually dead. When the first person, Adam, created by God, sinned, the Holy Spirit that was in him vacated him.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P4 (10-28-19)

Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the book of Romans. Bob beings by providing a background of the culture of Rome, a booming city, a place to be in that time in history, with art, literature, mighty army, the greatest nation on the earth at that time, but also a city filled with pagan idolatry and emperor worship.

Bob then spent most of his time on one verse, Romans 1:17. Bob explains the meaning of common terms, such as gospel and salvation. What is the gospel? What is the power of the gospel? Paul went to Rome to proclaim the gospel. Bob explains that the gospel went first to the Jew and then the Gentile. So the gospel is for everyone, not just for the Jew. That was a new concept in those early days, after Jesus rose from the dead. Bob explains that there are only three groups of people; Jews, Gentiles, and the Ecclesia, the body of Christ, the born again, made up of Jews and Gentiles. This could really be divided into two groups, the lost and the saved. There are lost Jews and lost Gentiles just as there are saved Jews and saved Gentiles.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Faith in Jesus Sets You Apart in Him

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P3 (10-23-19)

Synopsis

Bob George is sharing from the book of Romans. He shares again that Paul is an ambassador for Christ, appointed by God to bring the gospel, the message of good news, of life in Christ Jesus, to Jews and Gentiles alike. Then he continues to share from Romans, starting at verse 7.

Bob shares how designations get assigned to people. There are designations that God gives to people. God gave the designation of apostle to Paul. God gave the designation of saint to all who are in Christ Jesus. And all of us who are in Christ Jesus are ambassadors. Then there is a designation that religion and false thinking puts on you. Religion puts burdens on you, telling you to burn out for Jesus.

In the world of Christendom, what kind of designations have you believed to be true? Are you just an old sinner saved by grace? First of all, do you understand the gospel of Jesus Christ that Paul is proclaiming? Have you believed and understood the message of grace in Christ Jesus? Are you born again?

If you are born again, then have you been given a new designation?… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P2 (10-22-19)

Synopsis

Bob George now starts in the book of Romans, after providing some introductory background on the life of Paul. Through just the first seven verses of Romans, Bob explains the meaning of words, such as sin, forgiveness, sanctified (set apart), slave, ambassador, saint, truth, gospel, obedience and faith, that we often take for granted, and such words are often not properly understood. The Greek language provides a more precise rendering that helps our understanding in some cases.

The gospel is the message of good news of Jesus Christ and Paul is called as an ambassador of Jesus Christ to bring this good news and explain it to the Gentile world. Ambassador is not a short term function he is assigned to do. He is called as an ambassador, as an identification or designation. It is like the word forgiveness. It not something we get but something we already have. An ambassador for God is one who represents God in a foreign country, the place on earth, to proclaim truth.

Now truth to be truth, truth must be universal, for all people, for all times and for all places. The prosperity gospel is not truth because you cannot share that to both an impoverished city and also to a wealthy city.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Introduction to the Book of Romans

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P1 (10-21-19)

Synopsis

Bob George introduces the book of Romans by first providing background information into this man names Saul of Tarsus, later called Paul. Bob shares from the book of Acts to provide historical background into the nature and character of Saul before his conversion, then his encounter with the living Christ, his unique conversion experience, and then his calling by God to be an apostle to the Gentiles, to bring the gospel message before the Gentile world and before king and magistrates. Much of what we know of the gospel of good news is explained quite thoroughly through the writings of the apostle Paul. The majority of the New Testament we hold in our hands is through the apostle Paul. An ambassador is someone who is called to represent another party in another place and with a specific mission and with the authority to carry out that mission. Paul clearly received a mission by no other person except Jesus Christ, who called him and told him what he was to do and that he would suffer greatly for the cause of Christ.
