Classic Christianity – Encourage By Grace P1 (01-28-19)

Bob George shares from the Word of God to encourage believers by a message of grace. In part one of this three part series, Bob addresses the attitudes of faith. Let us begin now with the first four verses in Philippians 2.

By looking at just the first several verses, Bob explains what it means to be in fellowship with God. He further contrasts the Old Covenant under law with the New Covenant under grace, your new spiritual creation and identity in contrast to your inheritance in Adam, the ability to discern the things of God rather than leaning on your own understanding, and your freedom from death to life. Bob explains the root cause of sin, the consequences of sin, law contrasted with grace, and the grace of God resulting in a new freedom and attitude of thinking. He contrasts the attitudes of vain conceit and selfish ambition to the attitude of humility.

Bob shares about the message of grace and what salvation really is. Salvation is being saved from the consequences of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is the resurrected life of Christ. Bob addresses how this is not even understood by many pastors today, where the message is in serious error when the message is about getting sins forgiven, a denial of the finished work of the cross. You do not confess sins to get forgiveness from God. After a Thanksgiving message last several days, Bob George continues teaching from the book of John. In John 6, many were following Jesus to watch him heal the sick. Jesus later miraculously fed over 5000 people with five loaves and two fish, many more followed him. But why did they follow him? In previous lessons, Bob explained from scriptures that Jesus did none of these of these things on his own initiative. For Jesus purpose was much greater than the miracles. The message of eternal life is the message he came to bring, and there was work he had to complete for eternal life to be offered to men.

John 5:35-38

35 John shone brightly for a while, and you benefited and rejoiced, 36 but I have a greater witness than John. Classic Christianity – Book of John p14 (11-12-18)

Bob George, from the original People to People radio for over 30 years, continues teaching from the book of John. He starts out by introducing the thinking of an atheist and agnostic in regards to their lack of understanding of the truth of God. Then he transitions to how the child of God, or believer, knows the truth of God and has the indwelling Spirit of God to reveal truth to him. The believer has the choice to walk by the flesh or by the Spirit. Bob shares some common patterns of walking in the flesh and the absolute necessity of having the Spirit of God at work in you. Without the Holy Spirit, the believer cannot love and his natural tendency in the flesh is to walk in fear or anger.

Bob also explains the relationship between faith, hope and love and the typical flesh pattern of living in fear, sin really. Fear leads to anger or the building of defensive walls as barriers to relationships.
