Pay Attention to Details, “As in the Days of Noah”

~ We are told to pay attention to the details in the word of God. Not only did Jesus speak of Noah and Lot being actual people, he also gave us clear instruction as to what to expect when he returns. Folks, it’s not a pretty sight. For don’t forget those outside the ark were swept away. Some of you might get a little squeamish on the details, but that is why we actually need to pay attention to the details. Jesus gave this information for us to be aware of. We are not to throw away specific verses that don’t make us feel good. Because that is the flesh talking. And Satan wants you to focus on the flesh. The flesh always wants to feel good, even when a person is in Christ Jesus, we sometimes want to dismiss the clear cut truth of the word of God. Synopsis

When we are talking about the validity of Old Testament events, which certainly adds to the validity of the Old Testament itself, it all gets back again to one simple question Jesus asked, “Who do you say that I am?” Because if Jesus is who He is, God, and He said there is a Sodom and a Gomorrah then there was a Sodom and a Gomorrah

As you read the account of Sodom and Gomorrah, something striking you will notice. Fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. That is why archaeologists have never found those two cities that were destroyed by God. That adds to the validity of the scriptures. Archaeologists have found almost everything else recorded in the scriptures but they never found Sodom and Gomorrah.

But as you read these different accounts, do not just simply believe that this event happened or not, for that has no relevance to how you live your life. Synopsis

What convinces you that Jonah was in a fish? Or that there was a big flood? When you read what is recorded that Jesus said about these events, and knowing that Jesus is God, what would you have to conclude? That God is either a liar, which it is impossible for God to lie, or that those events really happened and those people really existed. Why would Jesus make some analogy between the flood of Noah to a future event in history where just as it was like in the days of Noah so will it be again, when God calls mankind, who put their trust in what God has said, to meet Jesus in the sky?

Jesus equated His own life and His resurrection to Jonah being in a belly of a whale. Was the resurrection an actual event? Absolutely. How can you equate His resurrection to an actual event to a fairy tale? Again, we are forced to conclude something about Jonah and the big fish. Synopsis

Once it is established in your mind that indeed the scriptures are the very words of God, and you know God is not a liar, then you can trust that whatever event God says happened, then it happened. The word of God has relevance to our lives and has more meaning than just confirming that some historical event happened. In other words, it would be irrelevant to me whether Noah and the flood actually happened or not if I did not believe Jesus is God, or had no confidence that these are the words of God. Whether I believe in Noah or the flood or not is irrelevant to whether I am going to spend eternity with God or not. Synopsis

It is so easy to assume someone is a believer. They go to church. They talk the talk. They pray. They sure act like one. They are even nice-sounding people. But the truth of the matter is the only person who really knows is the individual himself and God. But we can do ourselves or someone else a disservice by not asking probing questions about what truth is. We could also just assume they think just like us, and know what we know. But what if we also do not know the truth. Do we really simply want people to know what we know?

We may know Jesus is God, that he died, was buried and rose again and we even know about the Trinity, and believe that to be true. But does that necessarily mean that we know God? Does that mean we understand what it means to be born again? I may have even heard the phrase born again, but it might have a totally different connotation of meaning to me than what God really intended me to understand and know.
