Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 21 (05-15-19)

Bob George shared from John 5 where Jesus asked a man who was an invalid for over 38 years, “Do you want to get well?”. The man was having a pity party. Jesus saw through that and just told him to get up, pick up his mat and walk. Bob addressed the question, “Do you want to get well?” The question, “Do you want to get well?” is a vital question. It is not the fact we can’t but the fact that we do not want to. To someone, the answer may be that he does not want to get well. The issue is are you willing to sacrifice the peace of God that surpasses understanding for a temporary peace that passes away the minute the situation is over? Would you consider asking the Lord to help you be willing to change your want to? So whether the issue is being grumpy, having your own way, depression, addiction, marital problems, or any number of issues, do you want to get well?

Maturity is Getting to Know Jesus

Bob George discusses insights from God’s word. In part two, Bob addressed where true godly enthusiasm comes from, from God in contrast to worldly knowledge or fleshly zeal and the proud heart. He discusses the church, the people of God, who have been strengthened from God to do the work of the ministry, so in all things God will be praised. So God gives people as gifts to the church so that all will grow in maturity in Christ, to the unity in the faith, to the knowledge of the Son of God, and to the full measure of Christ, to know Him, to grasp how great is His love for you. Through God at work within the church, abiding in Christ, the fruit of the Spirit is made manifest. Bob continues teaching from Ephesians concerning the immature church, being tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine and deceitful scheming of men. Bob shares about the proper operation of spiritual gifts in the church for building the church up to maturity in Christ. And even under the Old Covenant and even from the beginning of creation, in Genesis God’s design has always been one man and one woman in what is rightly called marriage. Welcome to Classic Christianity radio from Bob George. From the original People to People radio, on the air for over 30 years, Bob answers questions from callers. He offers real answers to real problems with truth from God’s word. The first caller, Niles, is a father with six children, struggling in his marriage. Bob asked several questions to help him discern whether his wife is a born again believer. He gave practical advice in either case. If she is not born again, then he is unequally yoked and she does not have the ability to discern the things of God nor would she be inclined to do so. But, if both are believers, then as the leader of the home, he can approach his wife and appeal to her to study the scriptures together to get God’s wisdom, to ask God what he thinks about the subject of contention. So, it would no longer be about what I think or she thinks but what God thinks! The second caller, Beth, asked Bob if she does not go to a local church, then is she sinning. Join Bob George as he takes calls from listeners on the original People to People radio program for over 30 years. Tedd called to ask about if it was okay to date a girl who is in Catholic Church and he belongs to a different Church. Bob answers by addressing Tedd’s lack of time reading God’s word and not knowing the scriptures. Someone who is a child of God will grow as they read and ponder over God’s word letting the Holy Spirit teach him. But, in case Tedd did not know the Lord, Bob explained the simple gospel message. He then provided a practical suggestion to help both him and his girlfriend to hear truth from scriptures. The second caller, Dale, heard a sermon by a preacher that cited Luke 15 as scripture supporting the concept of a believer being able to be in and out of fellowship with God. Although the caller did not agree with the pastor, he wanted clarification from Bob on the meaning of Luke 15. Bob graciously answered by explaining a common problem in people applying scripture by determining truth from human experience.
