Scripture instructs us to test ourselves to see if we are in the faith. What is the attitude of our hearts? God came to reveal to us the attitude of our hearts, the condition of our soul. He did this so we might see our utter wretchedness and seek a Savior in Jesus Christ, that we might receive His righteousness, for we never had any of our own.

But what is our tendency in our humanity? Instead of looking at our sins in light of perfect righteousness, we compare ourselves with others saying, “I am not as bad as that woman over there.” As the apostle Paul says, he who compares himself with others is not wise. So we need to ask ourselves probing questions. For example, looking at the definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13, of who God is, since God is love, how well are you doing in the love department? If God, who is love, is alive living in you, then what kind of nature should be observed coming out of you? Are you open to listening to truth? Are you willing to let the Holy Spirit teach you, to reveal to you what truth is? Truth is in a person, the person of Jesus Christ. He testified of this by saying, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”.

So often we tend to separate the physical from the spiritual, as if those two worlds never intersect. That the spiritual stuff is those things on Sunday mornings, when you sing praise songs or sit in a pew reciting, “Lord have mercy” from a missalette without a clue what it means. Yes, you might know you have sinful behavior and in need of that sin and guilt dealt with, but you see no source of power or ability to do anything about it, except a temporary confessional that seems to at least ease your guilt and make you feel better.

It is good to receive encouragement from other believers. We all face struggles in life, a son going off to fight a war, burdened when you see your adult son making bad decisions in life, struggles with bitterness or depression, finding it difficult to forgive others who have wronged you. There are all kinds of struggles we face down here. We know these struggles are temporary in light of eternity, but we want answers on how to deal with these things.

Bob himself is encouraged to hear when truth is received and lives are changed. Those who grab a hold of this truth are teaching the same truth that encouraged and helped them into the lives of others. There are bible studies started in prisons and over in other countries where people have been deployed.

Synopsis

When you become born again, all things become new. Yes, there is growth, a renewing of the mind that has to occur, and will occur. We have an enemy, called Satan, that speaks through to our flesh. We learn to recognize the voice of God and what truth is, so that we can demolish those strongholds, those lies of Satan, and begin to walk in the new life God has given. God is tender toward us, and we have been given a new identity, called a child of God.

That new identity we have, a child of God, not a sinner saved by grace or an ex-convict, but a child of God, and when you grasp that truth, that is the starting point in which growth occurs. When you realize that God will never leave you or forsake, and loves and accepts you unconditionally, then that is an anchor to your soul. If error is what binds you, then truth is what sets you free.

Depression is one of the most common struggles people face. All of us face depression from time to time, and sometimes it grabs a hold of you and essentially cripples you from living free as God intended, full of joy and a peace that surpasses understanding. When you recognize that it is primarily a thinking problem rather than a disease or sickness, then you are on the starting point of walking free. You can start replacing the error in your thinking with truth.

With depression, we often are triggered by an emotional pain, an insult or a rejection from someone. Then you dwell on those thoughts in your head, but instead of relying on truth, you rely on feelings. Then instead of going to God for the answer in His word, you resort to other substitutes that make the flesh feel good. Oftentimes those things we gravitate to are only temporary and fleeting and are not real solutions, but often make the problem worse and fuel our depression. Synopsis

Many people experience depression. It seems it comes upon people because of injury, insult or rejection. There is often fear and anger associated with that. You do not want to experience that again. There is fear that you will. You have experienced those same patterns again and again. The truth to that matter, that is part of what Jesus said, that in this world you shall have tribulation. The key to overcoming depression is not by trying to alleviate the problem but by getting to know the perfect, unconditional love of God. For God Himself said that since He has overcome the world, and He lives in you and will never leave you or forsake you, that in Him, you too can overcome the world. He said that perfect love casts out fear.

This renewing of your mind will not happen overnight, but as you listen to the Lord and let Him speak to you through His word, you will begin to see your life transformed in your thinking. Your circumstances may not change, but inner attitudes in your heart will change.
