Classic Christianity – New Years P3 (12-30-20)

Synopsis

As you read the familiar story of the account in Luke of the birth and early life of Christ, what grabs your attention? The Spirit continually teaches us through His word, even from passages so familiar to us, as we stop and ponder His word, and ask the Lord to reveal to us what He wants us to see today. When you think of how the Spirit is at work to reveal truth to men, do you see how He works throughout the ages to reveal Himself to men? How has He revealed Himself to you? Today, He has revealed Himself to us by the Son He has given.

What do you think of the shepherds in the fields, who had angels visit them, and then Mary, through whom the angel Gabriel told her of the Spirit to be placed in her, to be called Immanuel, God with us? Then you have the Spirit speak to Simeon about a prophecy from the prophet Micah, that both the Jew and the Gentile will be saved the same way, through this small child Jesus, who will be the light to the Gentiles. This is predestination, that the Jew and the Gentile, will be predestined to be conformed to the image of God, to be saved the same way, by faith and faith alone in what Christ came to do and did.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus Wants to Make You a Child of God

Classic Christianity – New Years P2 (12-29-20)

Synopsis

So when you become born again, what is your identity? Are you a Baptist, a Presbyterian, or whatever title you choose to associate with? No. The bible only gives you one identity, a child of God. Denominations teach you denominational persuasions of men. It might be true. It might not be true. How do you know that what people are teaching you is true? By the word of God you hold in your hands, and by the Spirit of God, living in you, who has promised to guide you into all truth. Do you test whatever any man says is true? Do you test what is being said by looking into God’s word, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to you? That is what the apostle Paul commended the Bereans for doing. We also have the exhortation to study the word so as to rightly divide the word of God. We are instructed to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Did you know that we are also a part of the body of Christ? So what is the purpose of the body? Are we not to encourage one another daily, exhort one another, love one another, look after one another, and build one another up in the faith.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Classic Christianity – New Years P1 (12-28-20)

Synopsis

So often mankind lives in error because of the futility of their thinking. We are born spiritually dead, without the life of God in us, and until we are born again, we are essentially left to our own carnal thinking. We think we can pull it off and obey the law, or we think we can decide for ourselves what is right and wrong, and have no understanding that God within the man is indispensable to the proper functioning of the man.

I have spoken to a person who is lost, who will reject anything I say about Jesus but will say she picks out the good things out of all religions. The understanding of the lost is so foreign to someone who is now in Christ. We only know what it once was like because that is how we once thought.

Then we are born again, where the Spirit of God comes to indwell within us. The Spirit of God teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions. We are instructed to put aside our former way of thinking, that drove our former way of living, and to be renewed in our minds.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus is the King

Classic Christianity – Christmas P5 (12-25-20)

Synopsis

Are you seeking meaning and purpose in life? This time of season can either be filled with excitement, as you see children open up gifts, or it can be a great time of depression for others, a time of loneliness and despair. To some extent it depends on where you are in life? Did you lose your father during this time? Does it bring back memories of the time you were unemployed and saw no hope for the future? Many may fall in that category. But just as many reflect on their childhood and think of all the fun times going down a hill on a make-shift sled. Others simply look forward to the surprise of seeing a brother or sister open a gift you spent thinking about all year to give them, and seeing a smile on their face.

To the Jews in their day, the excitement was going to the annual feast, the Passover commemorating the day God rescued them from bondage out of Egypt. That was Jewish history and culture, but it was also a God-ordained holiday. Prophesied in a dream to Abraham, that his people would be enslaved some 400 years, but afterwards God will send a deliverer.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Make Jesus Your Savior Today

Classic Christianity – Christmas P4 (12-24-20)

Synopsis

As you read the gospel accounts, both in Luke and then now in Matthew, of the events surrounding Jesus birth. You had those unique periods of time, where Mary and Joseph and the shepherds heard from the angels, and of Simeon, an 84 year old man and a widow, who prayed to the Lord day and night, and the Spirit of God revealed Himself to them. They proclaimed that Jesus is the one who will save people from their sins. Then you read about His early childhood, and you see very clearly the fallen world will live in. You see a contrast between the proud and the humble. You have those who were truly looking for the promised Messiah, those who wanted to worship Him. The wisemen certainly sought out to bring gifts to the Messiah, with an attitude of truly wanting to worship Him. Then you have the madman, Herod, and the religious leaders, who only saw Him as a threat, either to their position as king or as a threat to their way of life, as teachers of the law, their way of making a living. They had no room in their heart for the Lord.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Classic Christianity – Christmas P3 (12-23-20)

Synopsis

As we read through the gospel of Luke, and other accounts surrounding Jesus birth, we gain insight into the hearts and nature of mankind. We learn about the emptiness in our heart, the void in our life. We learn how we cannot live up to the demands of the law. We learn we cannot please God by what we do. We learn about our wretched condition in our natural flesh. But we also learn of the different nature that is in Christ Jesus, that we might want what He has living in Him. He does not treat us as our sins deserve. He sees our fallen flesh and cares about our immediate needs so we can see our greater need, our need for a personal relationship with Him. He sees the deception and lies we have believed and wants to be our Father to guide us into all truth, so we can live in true freedom. For error is what binds and keeps us enslaved to fear. Perfect love casts out fear, and God is love.

God reveals truth to the hearts of men, longing to be gracious to them. But who will respond to His love?… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
