Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P6 (10-30-19)
Bob George continues sharing from the key passage of Romans 1:16-17. In the gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed that is by faith from first to last, and is the power of God unto salvation for all who will believe. When you believe the gospel, accept Christ as your life, you are able to communicate with the living God, to know His love and to know and love Him. There are only two types of righteousness, self righteousness, which is really no righteousness at all, and God’s righteousness. The righteousness of God is revealed by the Holy Spirit, who is drawing all men to Himself.
If a man thinks he has righteousness of his own, by what he does or fails to do, then he is only comparing himself with others. Only two things can occur. You see yourself as better or worse than someone else. You are either puffed up in pride or are overcome with self condemnation. Either way, you are bound by deception and enslaved to sin. That is really what happens in religion. You have to have rules and regulations, and that just keeps you in … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P2 (10-22-19)
Bob George now starts in the book of Romans, after providing some introductory background on the life of Paul. Through just the first seven verses of Romans, Bob explains the meaning of words, such as sin, forgiveness, sanctified (set apart), slave, ambassador, saint, truth, gospel, obedience and faith, that we often take for granted, and such words are often not properly understood. The Greek language provides a more precise rendering that helps our understanding in some cases.
The gospel is the message of good news of Jesus Christ and Paul is called as an ambassador of Jesus Christ to bring this good news and explain it to the Gentile world. Ambassador is not a short term function he is assigned to do. He is called as an ambassador, as an identification or designation. It is like the word forgiveness. It not something we get but something we already have. An ambassador for God is one who represents God in a foreign country, the place on earth, to proclaim truth.
Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 84 (10-14-19)
Let us turn to the 20th chapter of the gospel of John. We are coming to the end of Jesus life. We talked about in the past messages how important it is when you are about to depart this earth. One way or another, you give out the most important message you can. That is exactly what Jesus did.
Many times we doubt. We look, for example, at doubting Thomas, and say “What is wrong with him?” Yet, how many times in our own lives do we really doubt the Lord in regards to the information He gives to us. We can say that Thomas, for example, doubted Jesus was raised from the dead, which was a historical fact that was certainly true. As for the one who was raised from the dead, He passed on a great deal of information to us. How many of us, like doubting Thomas, do not grab a hold of what Jesus said is truth and hang onto that truth? Would we rather believe the teachings of this world, to grab a hold of all of the different philosophies of the world, and … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 81 (10-07-19)
Preparation Day. Now if you go down to verse 31. We all together. This was the day of preparation. The next day was to be a special Sabbath. In the Jewish history, there were many Sabbaths. A Sabbath is not just from Friday night to Saturday night. There were many Sabbaths. On this day, it was called a special Sabbath. The special Sabbath was the day, not the day of preparation, but the first day of the celebration of the feast of unleavened bread. That was called a special Sabbath. That was not on Saturday, as we know it today. That would be on Friday, the special Sabbath. The special Sabbath was the day of preparation. The regular Sabbath was on the Feast of Tabernacles.
John 19:31 31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath.
Let me go back to this. Thursday, the day Jesus was crucified, was called the day of Preparation. Is it not strange that he was crucified on the day of preparation when the cross was the preparation for the salvation through the resurrection. Is that … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 78 (09-30-19)
Let us join Bob now as he gets started with today’s lesson. God has revealed everything of Himself to us in Christ Jesus.
We have direct access to the Father. No intermediary is necessary for anyone to approach God.
Who were the disciples depending upon for information while Jesus was with them? Jesus. They asked him questions continually, did they not? Did he answer questions continually? Did he teach them continually? Everything we know about Jesus, about his kindness, about his goodness, about his forgiveness, about his dedication to you and me, and his faithfulness to you and me, every single thing we know about God and his character has been revealed to us in Christ Jesus.
In times past, God revealed Himself in many ways, through dreams and visions, through nature, but in these last days He has revealed Himself to us in His Son Christ Jesus.
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all
