Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 54 (08-05-19)

Synopsis

In the book of John, we have recorded down for us many conversations Jesus had with men as he walked this earth. He came to speak truth into the hearts of men. He performed miracles, that God wanted to do through him, in order that we might be willing to listen to the word of life he proclaimed. He spoke to Mary and Martha, whose brother Lazarus had died. Jesus told them that he is the resurrection and the life. Many Jews heard the message of truth, believed and spread the word. So many more people followed Jesus and listened to what he had to say. The religious leaders of the day, the Pharisees, who heard, were not excited about the truth, or even that Lazarus had just been raised from the dead.

Still today, there are those who would rather go after Jesus, and speak about Jesus they do not know. Where do you go to learn the truth about Jesus? From the religious leaders? There are some fine seminaries that speak the truth but how would you know the truth when you hear it? Sherry and John both called to ask questions that are so common even in the world still today. Sherry say she tries hard through prayer and seeks God to get God’s mercy through whatever means, such as prayer, and she is stuck. John asked about passages in John 1:9 as to who it was written to and about a passage in Hebrews where so many teach that you can lose your salvation. He also asked, “Does the Holy Spirit convict you of sin when you do wrong?”

Sherry would not let her mind get off the past rejection or bad things that happened in her life and would not believe God’s word over the lies in her head she has heard from out in the world. She says she has known the Lord for over 30 years but struggles in allowing herself to have mercy and knowing the good news. She says she seeks these things. That is her source of error and Bob is so patient with her to help her see her faulty thinking. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 44 (07-10-19)

As we have been studying through the gospel of John, it becomes more apparent what Jesus Christ came to accomplish on our behalf. In order for him to accomplish these things, we had to understand who he is, God. He first came to this earth to declare this. He came first of all to the Jews, who had their religion and traditions to lean upon on to explain this. He came to explain that it is not religion or tradition that saves you, but a person. He is not just a figure we study in the bible. Jesus is the one who came to save you. Sometimes we miss not only the reality of who he is, God, but where he is. The fact is that Jesus lives in us and he lives in us with the purpose to teach us truth. That truth will set us free.

John 8:36
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Bob received calls from several callers who heard error. These are the questions asked. Can I be in and out of fellowship with God? Have I committed the unpardonable sin? What about a young child or the handicapped or those who have never heard the gospel of salvation?

Dale called for clarification of truth from a pastor who spoke error concerning a believer being in and out of fellowship with God. He had incorrectly taught from the parable of the prodigal son from Luke 15 to explain a false teaching of being in and out of fellowship with God. Luke 15 is not talking about a believer but an unsaved lost son who received righteousness by faith and faith alone and an older brother who failed to receive that righteousness by faith. It is really a parable about the self righteous Jew and the non-seeking Gentile who hears the message of Christ, believes and is saved.

Mark calls on behalf of his 8 year old daughter concerning about what happens when young children die. Bob shared that for young children or the mentally handicapped, we just trust in God, who is perfectly loving and just to make such decisions for those decisions are not ours to make.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Turn to the gospel of John.

Let us look at a passage of scripture so important to us that is so clear on what Jesus said in regards to salvation. Salvation is being saved from the consequences of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is the resurrected life of Jesus Christ. Mankind has all kinds of opinions on what salvation is. Are you saved by going to a certain denomination? No! By doing enough good or avoiding too much bad? No!

Do you lean on your understanding? We all have that tendency. Do you rely on what man has told you? Do you look at the DaVinci code, the philosophies of men or science for the answer to life? Where is your source of truth and is it reliable? Is it from men or from God and how would you know?

Man has the tendency to rely on his own understanding for truth, which is the same error in the garden of Eden. Adam chose to find out for himself what is right and wrong and what is good and evil. Bob George explains how truth is accepted in the hearts of man, but also rejected by many. Bob shares what attitude a person should have in their heart in order for truth to be made known to them. Do you have the desire to do God’s will? If you do, then when you hear the teaching of Jesus, then you will know the truth when you hear it. No one can do God’s will in the energy of the flesh, but when our desire is there, to do God’s will, the moment we hear truth, we readily accept truth and that truth sets us free. That is why when Jesus asked his disciples, “Do you want to leave too?” that Peter said “Where shall we go? You have the very words of eternal life.”

But what keeps people from receiving truth? We have such a tendency to only see things in the natural realm. How do we understand things of the Spirit when we have never seen Spirit, never came from heaven, and were born spiritually dead.
