Synopsis

As you read the book of Hebrews, you will come to understand the New Covenant we are under today, with so many precious promises for us. The writer of Hebrews contrasts this covenant with the Old Covenant that it replaced. The Old Covenant was conditional in nature, and was to the people of Israel, that if they could keep all the requirements of the law, the law of Moses, with all its ten commandments and regulations, God would be their God and they would be His people. But man could not keep that, and neither could you and I today, who think we can do better in obeying the ten commandments of Moses, and come up with our own religious system that we might approach God.

So to understand the need of the New Covenant, you have to understand the problem of all mankind. You have to understand what caused our death, and that there is only one solution to death and that is life, but not a temporal life, but eternal life. As we ponder over understanding the word of God in regards to interacting with other people, we have this wisdom from God in dealing with anxiety and worry and also dealing with a critical spirit toward others. What is our tendency when others do not think like us? Do we want to just write them off and have nothing further to do with them? Thank God Jesus is not like us. When a woman was caught in adultery, all these men were picking up stones to stone her to death. What did Jesus do? He told them that if any one of them is without sin, he is to be the first person to cast the stone. Jesus, being the only person without sin, what did he do? As we read in Philippians, concerning the attitude in Christ Jesus, there are three basic attitudes that God wants to form in us, the attitudes of servitude, humility and dependency on the Father. When we come to Christ by faith in his death, burial and resurrection for us, we are on the starting line, where for the very first time the Spirit of God is placed in us. The mind of Christ is what we now have, to discern the things of God.

We are to walk by faith in truth. We are to walk by faith in Christ, who gave his life for you so he could give his life to you so he could live his life in you and through you. Indeed, it is by faith in what Christ alone has done, by his death, burial and resurrection that we have become a child of God. As a child of God you have been given the choice to walk in the newness of life, to choose to participate in the divine nature, who lives in you. As a child of God, Christ lives in you. Everything that is a characteristic of God; compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, is in you. You do not have to go get compassion or pray for patience.
