God Jesus is Love

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P72 (09-30-20)

Synopsis

As you ponder over the scriptures, the many things Jesus told us, and the writings of the apostles, who explain these things to us, our minds are renewed with truth as the Spirit reveals truth to us about who we are, about our flesh, and about who God is. Again, we love because God first loved us. We respond to that truth and those attitudes of heart in Christ Jesus are formed in us. Those attitudes of heart show up in our love for one another. That triplicate again of faith, hope and love is visible in us through the love of God worked in us and through us. Christ in us is our hope of glory. We place our faith, our dependency upon Christ, continually walking in that faith in Christ alone.

We come to realize that when Jesus walked on this earth, emptying himself of his divine attributes, while never ceasing to be God, showed us what it is like to live as a man and to live as He lived. How did Jesus live? In total dependency on His Father. So, He tells … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

The Law of Love

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P71 (09-29-20)

Synopsis

Love is the indicator as to whether you are in Christ Jesus or not. When we are born, we are born without the Spirit of God living in us. God is love and love comes from God. God initiates His love to us and we respond to that love. We come to understand His love through the Spirit who reveals to us God through His Son Jesus Christ. We realize what Jesus came to do for us, to die on a cross to take away the sins of the world, in order to rise again, so His life can be given to us. God is received by faith.

Without God, the only thing we had was a spirit that was empty, longing to be filled with meaning and purpose. That is why man asks questions like, “Why am I here?” “Why do I feel empty inside?”, “Where will I go when I die”, or “How can I love and be loved?” Knowing that we sin, we are longing for unconditional love and acceptance but we have misplaced dependencies and unrealistic expectations. We either ignore God even … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus Gave Us New Commands of Belief and Love

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P70 (09-28-20)

Synopsis

The flesh wants its own way. The flesh wants its own parking space. Flesh wants justice all the time, especially if it relates to us. So, we are not like God. God is perfect love. It is when we come to know the love of God, and are recipients of His love, that we see a new way to live as God intended us to live. When we come to know God, we are set apart to serve one another in love, in the same way we received unconditional love and acceptance from Him.

We must come to understand the command that Jesus has for us, to love one another. The first thing we must come to grips with is that I cannot do that but I am indwelt with the one who can. We have that privilege in participating in the divine nature that lives in us and to participate in that love. We do not have to go get it. It is there. It is just if I am going to yield to the flesh that wants to be served or yield to the … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Love is the Greatest

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P69 (09-23-20)

Synopsis

Have you ever heard someone say that the gospel is to obey the two greatest commandments that Jesus gave, to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself? No, that is not the gospel. That is the fruit of the gospel, as a believer abides in Christ, allowing God, who is love and lives in you, to love in and through you. We may have the desire to love, or to be perfect, but I tell you, you cannot do that in the energy of your flesh.

The truth of the matter is that we do not know what love is until we come to understand God’s love for us through what He came to do for us in Christ Jesus. When we do not grasp God’s love for us, what do we do? Well, we can try and try until we fall on our face, we can pick and choose what we think we can do, or if we really want to make it easy on ourselves we can come with all kinds of substitutes … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus Did The Will of The Father

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P68 (09-22-20)

Synopsis

Our natural fallen flesh wants to be noticed and wants its own way. But as our mind gets renewed we learn to walk in the new way of the Spirit. We look at the example of Jesus as he walked this earth in total dependency on His Father. We see that attitude of humility of Jesus to leave heaven to live among men and become like one of us, who, in his attitude of servitude, came not to be served, but to serve, not to condemn but to save, and to lay down his life as a ransom for many. We zoom in and look at one detail of his life that demonstrates this attitude of not wanting your own way.

Jesus was sent on a rescue mission to rescue mankind from a certain condition of spiritual death and the problem of death is solved by life. If that problem is not solved, there is no hope for mankind. If what caused our death, which is sin, is not taken away first, mankind is lost forever. And if life is not given back to man, he … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus Loved Us First

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P67 (09-21-20)

Synopsis

We want to have attitudes of heart formed in us, the same attitude that is in Christ Jesus. A picture of the attitude of Christ Jesus is when he was in the garden of Gethsemane, agonizing over what he will experience for our sakes. Jesus said, “Lord, if there is any other way for this to be done, but it is not my will, but your will be done.”

These attitudes of heart, of servitude, of not wanting our own way, of not putting ourselves first, but honoring one another above ourselves, of going to another who is caught up in sin, not to condemn but to restore, of setting out to make peace with everyone, as far as it depends on you. These attitudes show up, of not having a critical spirit on another brother or sister who is called to a different function with a different gift than you, of not being jealous of another person’s success or notoriety or popularity, of being humble of heart saying if it were not for grace of God there go I.

And of forgiving one another because … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
