Synopsis

As children of God, we have the privilege to participate in the divine nature. Before, we did not have such a privilege, because you cannot participate in what you do not yet have, the Spirit of God living in you. But, everyone is born with free will. Adam and Eve were born with the choice to love God or to choose for themselves what is right and wrong, and good and evil. When they chose wrong, sin and death entered this world, the Spirit of God left mankind, for all have sinned, and all have died.

So since the fall of Adam, we were all born spiritually dead, without the Spirit of God living in us. Then Jesus took away the cause of death, which is sin, by becoming sin for us, when he shed his blood on a cross. Now, man has a choice to accept the life of Christ. For when Jesus rose from the dead, he now offers eternal life, the same life that raised him from the dead, to all who will come to him to receive that life. Do you really grasp the unconditional love and acceptance of God? Are you complete in Christ? If you are single, do you think, if only I get married, then I will find true happiness, that she will love me unconditionally? If you are married, have you realized that your spouse cannot meet that need? Are you sucking the energy out of each other, placing unrealistic expectations on each other? You see, your real need is a spiritual need that cannot be filled by people. Unconditional love and acceptance can only be met by God.

Synopsis

Listen as Bob summarizes what the apostle Paul proclaimed to both Jew and Gentile alike, the righteousness that is received by faith and faith alone in what Christ accomplished for you, by his death, burial and resurrection. It has never been by works of the law, of how well you kept the ten commandments. It is an impossibility for the Jew, who were given the law, and all the prophets, and for us, the Gentiles, who never had the law, but stole the law from the Jews, and tried to do what the Jews did, and failed miserably. The real issue is that we were all born dead, whether Jew or Gentile, without the Spirit of God, and we are in need of life.

Synopsis

What is the conclusion drawn in Romans 9, as Paul addresses both the Jew and the Gentile? It is about appealing to men to come to Christ by faith and faith alone. Do you want to be proud of heart, like the Jew, or do you want to be humble, like the Gentile, who believed the message Paul preached? Do you want God’s mercy? Do you want to receive God’s grace? If you are in Christ, you already have His grace. If you are still alive, it is His mercy that He already took your sins away, and He is long-suffering and patient with you, waiting for you to come to Him to receive new life.

We are now in the 9^th chapter of Romans. Recall the reason Paul is addressing the Romans is for the sake of the gospel. He longs for his own people the Jews to be saved. He explains the gospel is for Jew and Gentile alike, and it has always been by faith from first to last. In Romans 9, you read about the heart of love Paul, a Jew himself, has for his own people. As we addressed in Romans 8, God wants us to be convinced of God’s amazing love for us.

Why is it that the religious, particularly the leadership, do not come to Christ. Here are the Jews today, with over 2000 years of history, of Moses, the covenants, the prophets, and yet are stubborn and obstinate, and fail to believe. It was not God’s word that failed.
