Faith in Jesus is What Counts

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P16 (03-15-21)

Synopsis

As you read through chapter eleven in the book of Hebrews, you will read about several Old Testament people and events that happened during their lifetime. We read about these men of faith, some that conquered kingdoms and others that were conquered for the cause of Christ, some were strong and did great exploits whereas others were sawed in two or wandered around in holes in the ground. But all of them were commended for their faith.

So you ask yourself, why would the writer of Hebrews think it important to write about these people and events? Certainly he believed they were real people and real events. Then you also have the apostles Peter and Paul also writing and referencing people and events, and sometimes the same people and the same events. Did they think they were real people and real events? What about their enemies? Did they think they were real people and real events? As you ponder over these things, you must conclude they were real people and real, and not fairy tales.

There were real events recorded in the Old Testament and substantiated in the book of Hebrews in the New Testament.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

What is Faith

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P15 (03-10-21)

Synopsis

The purpose of this lesson is to enable you and me to realize that the book we hold in our hands, both old and new, is a book that was dictated out of the very heart of God Himself. As we read about what the prophets wrote down, realize that they were dictated to them by God. We read that from the prophet Jeremiah 30:1-2, what he testifies where He got the words from. These words we read in the scriptures are of divine origin. With so much testimony, the conclusion to me is evident, that the scriptures we hold in our hands truly is from God.

We also have the testimony of the New Testament that would refer back to Old Testament people and events. That testimony itself gives validity to the fact that the New Testament writers believed the Old Testament scriptures came from God. And even more so, Jesus Himself quoted from the Old Testament scriptures, giving an analogy for spiritual truth for us to grab a hold of today. For example, do not fail to enter the Sabbath rest. There is now a Sabbath rest for the people of God today, for Christ Jesus completed the work that all the Old Testament prophets testified of.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus Brought a Sword of His Word

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P13 (03-08-21)

Synopsis

What convinces you that Jonah was in a fish? Or that there was a big flood? When you read what is recorded that Jesus said about these events, and knowing that Jesus is God, what would you have to conclude? That God is either a liar, which it is impossible for God to lie, or that those events really happened and those people really existed. Why would Jesus make some analogy between the flood of Noah to a future event in history where just as it was like in the days of Noah so will it be again, when God calls mankind, who put their trust in what God has said, to meet Jesus in the sky?

Jesus equated His own life and His resurrection to Jonah being in a belly of a whale. Was the resurrection an actual event? Absolutely. How can you equate His resurrection to an actual event to a fairy tale? Again, we are forced to conclude something about Jonah and the big fish. That is, if Jesus is indeed who He claims to be, and that is God, and He says Jonah was in a fish, then Jonah was in a fish.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus Has Taken Away Your Sins Once For All

Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P614 (03-05-21)

Synopsis

What is the purpose of the book of Hebrews? Have you ever heard a sermon on it? It is so valuable to understand the New Covenant we are living under today. Oftentimes the only passage people have heard about from Hebrews are Hebrews 6:4, and without understanding the entire context of what the author of Hebrews is writing about, people get all fearful that they are deliberately sinning, meaning they have committed one of the nasty nine or one of the dirty dozen, that they are going to be cast into a raging fire. So what do people do? They pull out their 1 John 1:9 and ask God to forgive them of their sins.

First of all, one must understand the totality of the cross. When the Jew is going back to the day of atonement, killing a bull or a goat, to get his sins forgiven, or the Catholic is going to the confessional booth to get his sins forgiven, or the Protestant is going direct to God to get his sins forgiven, quoting 1 John 1:9 out of context, what are they doing? They are sinning against the knowledge of the truth.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus is Truth Now Be as a Berean

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P11 (03-02-21)

Synopsis

It is so easy to assume someone is a believer. They go to church. They talk the talk. They pray. They sure act like one. They are even nice-sounding people. But the truth of the matter is the only person who really knows is the individual himself and God. But we can do ourselves or someone else a disservice by not asking probing questions about what truth is. We could also just assume they think just like us, and know what we know. But what if we also do not know the truth. Do we really simply want people to know what we know?

We may know Jesus is God, that he died, was buried and rose again and we even know about the Trinity, and believe that to be true. But does that necessarily mean that we know God? Does that mean we understand what it means to be born again? I may have even heard the phrase born again, but it might have a totally different connotation of meaning to me than what God really intended me to understand and know. What if I had religious baggage and thought I was born again as an infant, not being familiar with what the word of God says or, more importantly, what it means?… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Love With Jesus Love

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P10 (03-01-21)

Synopsis

When you read in the scriptures about all the different eyewitnesses of those who saw, heard and touched Jesus, what conclusions do you come to? You can only come to the conclusion that Jesus is either a nutcase, a liar, or an imposter, or He is indeed what He claimed to be, God in the flesh. If even archaeological evidence confirms the events, times and places that are recorded in the scriptures are true, and that what is written down by the prophets came true precisely as they said, then I would ask where does the evidence lead? What probability is there that all these over 300 prophecies, even over a thousand years, long before the events occurred, by people of all walks of life and different periods in history, all came true, what reasonable conclusion would you come to? The overwhelming evidence is why we believe that Jesus is God and His word is true. Jesus even said if you cannot believe me by what I say then believe me based on the miracles you see. Nicodemus, a leading Pharisee, even said, “Who can do the things Jesus does unless God were with him?”… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
