Several callers called to ask questions for clarification on truth. The questions asked were for understanding forgiveness, legalism, spiritual growth, water baptism versus baptism of the Spirit, and what it means by “bound and loosed” in John 20:23. Bob explains the scriptures to explain truth while exposing common misunderstanding.

Bobbie called to express his spiritual burnout he is experiencing in bible college. Bob personally believes it is due to a lack of emphasis on the dependence of the Spirit of God to understand the meaning of the word of God. The bible is written so someone can get to know the author. Bob then addressed his question on forgiveness more thoroughly, for he is being improperly taught in his bible college. The issue of forgiveness is emphasized more than anything else in bible college, but is taught in error, as in the common misunderstanding of 1 John 1:9, where people are taught to keep short accounts with God, to confess future sins so as to keep in fellowship with God. That is teaching in error.

A Person Forgiven Much by God Loves Much

Bob George is so glad to hear from people that call to thank him for truth that has changed their lives. Jeff called and is now serving as a pastor, known also as pastor Jay, is now excited sharing the same grace and love of God that changed his life. Ted called to thank Bob for resources that he could share with the soldiers deployed overseas. The materials, particularly Classic Christianity and Victory of Depression, were very much liked by the troops there. Vernon called to express his gratitude for the truth that he now understands, that he is already forgiven and no longer needs to ask God for forgiveness of sins every morning. That understanding of truth changed his life.

What is particularly special and brings great joy is when the truth of the gospel is shared to someone so that he becomes a child of God. James called to ask a question about what makes a man think he is a homosexual. Many times people ask such questions because they are bothered about sin in their own life and want to be set free. Tony asked a question about false prophets, those men who say they heard from God. Nobody today is getting direct words from God. Those who prophecy today are proclaiming truth from the scriptures that have now been closed. The canon has been closed. Anyone proclaiming words of the Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses or the other cults is not a prophet.

Stacey asked about why Jesus was tempted when he is God and He is never tempted. Bob cleared up her misunderstanding. Someone can be presented the temptation to sin, but if you are perfect like God then that really is not a temptation to you. Sin was offered to Jesus by Satan is what is being said here but Jesus is not ever tempted by sin that he should sin. If I were offered a cigarette or drugs, I would walk away or turn it down because I never desired or was given to that kind of temptation.

Jesus Asks of Us Lean Not on Your Own Understanding

Tony asked for understanding of a conversation he had with people who believed that the apostle Paul was the only person with the mystery of the gospel. Bob instructed him to stay away from such erroneous teaching and rely on the Spirit to teach you and trust Him to complete the work he started in you. Think about Ephesians 3:5 and 2 Timothy 3:16 for example. Bob then answered his question about priesthood and ambassadors. Those in Christ Jesus are ambassadors for Christ, since our citizenship is in heaven, representatives of God on earth and our priestly function, with the Spirit living in us, is to represent Christ to the lost and the lost to Christ. Aaron got into a conversation with Bob, agreeing that scare tactics is not an effective way of evangelizing. Bob addressed that the heart of the gospel is the resurrection. Bob personally addresses the person’s need of new life first, and if the person then does not accept or agree, then it would be fine to address the matter of their being on their way to hell in unbelief, but he would not start there. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 25 (05-27-19)

We read from John 5:42, where Jesus spoke to the world, and said, “I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.” Bob George earlier explained that Jesus came to dwell with men so they may see they are dead, without the Holy Spirit living in them, in order that they might hear the words of life and come to Jesus Christ to receive his life. The life that is in Jesus Christ is the Holy Spirit of God. Having emptied himself of his divine attributes, Jesus, as God in the flesh, walked on the earth as a man. He lived as a man, showing us how mankind was designed to live, by being total dependent on the Holy Spirit (John 5:19, John 8:28).

Bob George digresses to teach from 1 Corinthians 13 to explain how the fruit of the Spirit must come from abiding in the vine, the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. God is the source of love for God is love. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4:8). Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 23 (05-21-19)

Bob George continues teaching from John 5. He shares again about the Holy Spirit, how this person of the Trinity is our guide and counselor. God sent Jesus to explain how to live in total dependence on the Holy Spirit. Jesus emptied himself of his divine attributes, lived as a man like us, except without sin and lived in total dependence of His Father. So we, who are born again, should let the Spirit of God, living in us, guide us into all truth and counsel us. The Holy Spirit instructs us, showing us the error in our thinking, in order to replace error in our minds with truth. So let us walk in the Spirit and see this fruit be produced in us and through us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

Bob George also shared the process that takes place in the mind of an unbeliever for him to come to Christ. The law at work, with the drawing of the Holy Spirit, reveals to him his condition of spiritual death.
