Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 19 (05-13-19)

Bob George is teaching from the gospel of John. Currently we are reading the account in John 4 of the Samaritan woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did”. Bob explains what discipleship really is, teaching others about Jesus, the person you came to know. Bob said it this way, “I am not discipling a person to be like me but discipling a person to think like Jesus.” As you share your testimony, you are getting someone’s attention about what God did for you and that God can do something for him too. Bob also exhorts the believer to share the truth of the gospel message. It is vitally important to also share the words of God, the gospel that gave you new spiritual life. The “Born Free” booklet is useful for that purpose. From there, you then disciple a believer, by continuing to share from out of that relationship you have with the living God, the truth that has been revealed to you by the Spirit of God. You are encouraging them to study to know God intimately. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 18 (05-08-19)

Bob George shares again the good news of the gospel, sharing truth from scriptures that he has compiled into a little booklet titled, “Born Free”. What is our part, as believers in Christ?

2 Corinthians 5:20
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

Recall that which Christ has done for us, the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19
18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:21
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

We are saved by His life, the cross was not an end in itself, but a means of accomplishing the end – that of restoring life that had been lost through sin.

Colossians 1:21-22

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 17 (05-07-19)

Bob George answers the question, “What is the gospel?”. Starting from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Bob explains that Jesus died, was buried and was raised from the dead and appeared to you. This is the gospel that saves you, with nothing added to it. The gospel that saves is the message of what Christ has done to take away the consequences of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is life. Bob wrote a booklet titled , “Born Free”, that explains the gospel message. There are five main thoughts Bob shares concerning the gospel message.

Man’s problem : Man is spiritually dead and in need of life
God’s Solution : God has provided life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
Before life could be given, sins had to be forgiven (taken away)
The Good News of the Gospel – “It is finished”
In Him you are a new creation.

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 16 (05-06-19)

Bob continues in the gospel of John, where he left off in chapter 4. He summarizes Jesus encounter with the Samaritan woman as an introduction to the topic of evangelism and starts up again where Jesus reconnects with his disciples, telling them the fields are ripe for harvest. Evangelism is reaching out in love with the truth of the gospel message. The gospel message is all about what Jesus came to earth to do and did. As believers, we share the same gospel of good news we believed and received, which is the same gospel that the apostle Paul preached. We long to share that message with others. Bob George explains what the gospel message is beginning with 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and several other scriptures. In one sentence, the gospel is a message of how man is saved from the consequences of sin, the wages of sin, which is death by the gift of God, which is eternal life. He explains the reason he wrote the “Born Free” gospel booklet in the order it is in. These callers called in to the original People to People radio program Bob George was on for over 30 years. Most of the questions were to get clarification of truth on some commonly misunderstood passages of scripture. Laurie asked, “Where do you place Melchizedek in Hebrews 6:16?” Oftentimes by simply reading the verses before and after a scripture that is unclear to you, you can discern what is important to understand in a passage. We often want to focus on a very narrow point rather than get the spiritual truth that Jesus wants you to know. Bob emphasized that Hebrews is about explaining the superiority of Jesus Christ. To the Jew, there is no one greater than Abraham. Hebrews clears this matter up by explaining that Melchizedek is greater than Abraham and Jesus s greater than everyone.

Edwin asked a very common question, typical of those who are new believers or those improperly instructed from religious teaching. He asked what is the difference between baptism of water and baptism of the Holy Spirit. By studying the scriptures the answer is very clear. Bob George received a call from Jim who simply asked if love is more important than faith. Bob answered from scripture that love indeed is greater than faith because love is from God and God is love. God initiated love to us and we respond to that love in faith. So faith is man’s response to love. Do we accept his love or do we reject it? Do we even understand that love? Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love.

Bob George also received a call from a young college lady, Lynn, who had found herself in an unwanted situation. She had committed fornication and is now pregnant. She wanted to know if abortion was wrong. Bob graciously shared truth with her, that abortion indeed is the sin of murder. Bob graciously provided practical advice and explained the truth of God’s unconditional love toward her. He shared such practical wisdom to help her make choices in line with who she is as a born again believer. God created life and this child she has was a life God intended to live.
