Synopsis

The purpose of this lesson is to enable you and me to realize that the book we hold in our hands, both old and new, is a book that was dictated out of the very heart of God Himself. As we read about what the prophets wrote down, realize that they were dictated to them by God. We read that from the prophet Jeremiah 30:1-2, what he testifies where He got the words from. These words we read in the scriptures are of divine origin. With so much testimony, the conclusion to me is evident, that the scriptures we hold in our hands truly is from God.

We also have the testimony of the New Testament that would refer back to Old Testament people and events. That testimony itself gives validity to the fact that the New Testament writers believed the Old Testament scriptures came from God. And even more so, Jesus Himself quoted from the Old Testament scriptures, giving an analogy for spiritual truth for us to grab a hold of today. For example, do not fail to enter the Sabbath rest. Synopsis

The word of God points to Jesus Christ. Inasmuch as Jesus is alive, His word is alive. You cannot separate those because when God says something, it is a total reflection of His being, unlike us. So God is living and God is active. He is alive and so God’s word is living and is active.

The word of God had to be confirmed and it was, but all scripture points to Jesus, in what He came to do for us through His death, burial and resurrection for us, so we may live a new life. All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, correction, rebuke and training in righteousness. The word of God that we hold in our hands will teach us. Teach us what? Truth. That will do what? Set us free. It is teaching for rebuking what is taught. We have gone off the road, and it tells us we are off the road. It is useful for correcting. What is that? Getting you back on the road. Training for righteousness. What is that? Keeping you on the road. Synopsis

So you want to share truth with your family and friends. You sense in your spirit, and maybe you are even convinced from your reading of God’s word, that surely we are in the last days. But I have loved ones, and I have Jewish friends, and Catholic and Protestant friends! How do I share the truth of the gospel to them?

Yes, I have friends in all kinds of situations. Some seem quite moral, and others legalistic. Some are struggling in their marriage, or addicted to drugs. They all can be nice people, too, of all kinds of religious backgrounds or lack thereof. They all seem like really nice people, at least when I interact with them. And, is there really one sin that is more serious than others? What about the nasty nine or the terrible twelve sins? I mean practically people go to jail or get death penalty, but what is God’s perspective on all this? None of us are perfect. What is God’s expectation of us? What does God want from us? Can anyone really approach God, who is absolutely sinless perfection?

All is Permissible Not All is Profitable

Synopsis

At times, people have called in, asking for help with a drug problem, whether alcohol, marijuana or something else. But in reality their problem is not really a drug problem, but a heart problem. For as Jesus said it out of the heart that comes the issues of life. The way to fix a heart problem, is to address the source of the problem. What error have you believed concerning yourself or God? Do you think you are condemned to hell because of your addiction? If you are a child of God, you are not. If you are not a child of God, then that is your source of your problem, not knowing God, and therefore, not having access to truth, the mind of Christ, to set you free.

But either way, there is error in your thinking that binds you. You are either under the control of Satan, which you are by default as a lost person, or you have put yourself under his control by yielding to the temptation of the flesh, which is where sin dwells. Salvation is Life to the Dead

Synopsis

So many people have been raised in some religion denomination, whether Judaism, Catholic or Baptist, and think they are saved by believing what they have been taught. The problem is that what they have been taught is words of men based on tradition. They do not understand what salvation is. They think salvation is getting sins forgiven. That is only a half gospel, and that is not even fully understood. A Jew goes back to the day of atonement, the shedding of the blood of a bull or goat, to get their sins forgiven. The Catholic goes to the confessional booth to confess his sins before a priest to get his sins forgiven. The Baptist or Protestant goes direct to God, quoting 1 John 1:9, keeping short accounts with God, to get his sins forgiven. But none of those things takes away sin. Indeed only the atonement was even recognized, under a temporary Old Covenant system, to cover sin. But even that was set aside by a New Covenant system when Jesus shed his blood on a cross. Believe God is Not Counting Your Sins Against You

Synopsis

We struggle with grasping the depth of God’s unconditional love and acceptance. When we make bad choices, that is, we sin against God and one another, what is our response to that? Do we hide in fear? For those in Christ Jesus, God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. He who fears is not made perfect in love. Do we think God is angry at us? Do we have this expectation of raging fire, being turned aside by God, that we have fallen away and cast aside by God? No, God has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He sealed His Holy Spirit in us. No one can snatch you out of My Father’s hands.

It seems our natural inclination is to withdraw in isolation or even make the problem worse, adding sin upon sin. Yet God says, come boldly to the throne of grace for help in time of need. We forget the wisdom of Proverbs that says that he who confesses and forsakes his sin will find compassion and mercy.
