We Have a New Identity in Christ When We are Saved

So let’s pick up with our study and review some of the things we have learned. Jesus has made us a brand new creation. The Apostle Paul explains in 2 Corinthians 5:17 the new creation has come if anyone is in Christ Jesus. The old has gone and the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17
¹⁷ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

And furthermore Paul writes in Galatians 2:20 that I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. Paul is telling us that the old Paul no longer lives, but Christ lives in me. Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Reality of The Resurrection P24 (01-24-22)

God’s Righteousness is Incorruptible!

The fantastic good news is that God’s righteousness is incorruptible. Note that we never had any righteousness to begin with. So, the very moment we are born again of the Spirit, God’s Spirit comes into us and gives us eternal life. At that very moment in time, we become clothed in the righteousness of God. When God looks at us (people that have been born again of the Spirit of God), He sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ. So when God looks at us, He sees the clothing of Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 1:30
³⁰ It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

When we receive Jesus, we receive His righteousness. We don’t get righteousness by what we do. We don’t make ourselves holy by the things we don’t do. God’s righteousness has to be imputed to us. He gives us everything in Him. We have His righteousness. We have His holiness. And, we have His wisdom. Everything has been given to us in Him.

Galatians 5:1
¹ It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

God Has Forgiven You of All Your Sins!

John called from Phoenix. He had a question in regards to the blessed assurance. He was worried about one particular verse of scripture. It scared him to think God may say, ‘I never knew you’ based on some of his sins.

Bob clears it up. Salvation is being saved from death. For the wages of sin is death. When Jesus went to the cross, he took away the sins of the world. All your sins were future when Jesus died on the cross. With God there is no past, present and future when it comes to dealing with sins on the cross. Jesus took ALL your SINS away.

Now, a person that has accepted Jesus by faith has eternal life. It’s a life and death issue today.

Matthew 7:21-23
²¹ “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

Emotions Respond to Whatever We Are Thinking

Justin called from Vancouver, British Columbia. He wanted some practical biblical advice from scripture for someone that is facing emotional pain.

Bob tells him that our emotions follow what we are thinking. We don’t have emotional problems, we have thinking problems. It’s like when you go to the movie and see a scary movie, that scares the living daylights out of you.

The same thing occurs to the person that is dwelling on sins from the past or the things from our past that were not good. Then, if that isn’t enough for us to worry about, we start thinking about all the bad things that may happen in the future. You start thinking about all the hardships you are going to face or thinking you may have to go selling pencils on a street-corner someplace for a job.

Jesus told us to live one day at a time, and the Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Righteousness is a gift from God. Jesus gives us His life and His righteousness when we place faith in Him. Jesus says we must be perfect. And the religious people are out there trying to make themselves perfect which is an impossibility. On the other hand, the person that comes to the end of themselves, and realizes they can not be perfect in the sight of God based on what they do or don’t do, then God says, “you’re right.” The person thinking they can keep the law is filled with pride of self while the other one is humbled by realizing they could not do it.
