Truth Sets You Free
Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P501 (01-09-20)

Synopsis

There is nothing that has overtaken you except what is common to man. Depression and addictions of all kinds are common to man. That does not mean everybody will be addicted to alcohol or cocaine, but the root problem is the same. Brokenness and sin manifests itself in people in different ways. No matter what condition you are in, Christ Jesus is who you really need. Are you depressed? What do you think causes depression? It really stems from a thinking problem. You are thinking about the bad things that happened yesterday, or even projecting what life will be like tomorrow, and your feelings naturally follow. At times, such depression will lead to other thinking issues and other areas of addiction, such as alcohol or cocaine. And what do people naturally do? They compare themselves with others, assuming others have it all together. The truth of the matter is, nobody has it all together. Religion also compounds the problem, making demands of you, that you could never meet. That also leads to frustration. Some respond by giving up. Others try all the harder, looking down on others, until they are just warn out.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

The Gift of God

Classic Christianity – Christmas P2 (12-24-19)

Synopsis

You are wondering about the meaning of life? You notice a nativity set on the front lawn of a neighbor’s house. You cannot help but hear about a person named Jesus. So you decide you want to find out more about who this Jesus is. Another person is steeped in religion. He goes to what people call church. He too is wondering about the meaning of life. He has heard a few things about Jesus. He knows about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, but a message of what that accomplished for him personally has never been told, and certainly never understood. He is burdened down by all the things he is trying to get sins forgiven and decides he is tired of all this. He is looking for answers also. Why am I here? Where will I go when I die? Why do I feel empty inside?

This is a picture of the Jew and the Gentile. The lost Jew is steeped in religion, and although he has all of the law and the prophets, and has heard about God, he does not understand what the promised Messiah came to do. The Gentile hardly knows anything about God.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Free to Choose

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P18 (12-04-19)

Synopsis

In the struggles of life, with its trials and tribulations, we are to hold onto faith. Faith is not a blind faith. Faith is in an object, in the one who has fulfilled all his promises, and who will fulfill all the promises he has made, and the only one who has the authority and power to do so. This person is Jesus, God in the flesh. He died, was buried and rose again. He reconciled us to himself by his death on a cross and justified us by his life. He is the creator of all that is, with the power to raise the dead, you and me, to life again. So in Him, we are more than conquerors.

Yet, at times, we lose focus on Christ. We look at our circumstances, no matter hard they may be. We get angry at God or want to die or turn to the ungodly for advice, the psychologists or drugs or alcohol or any number of things to ease the pain. But that is not God’s way to live. God gives us peace that surpasses understanding. He told us to persevere under trial, for suffering produces character and character produces hope, and hope never disappoints.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Saved by Life

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P17 (12-03-19)

Synopsis

God has always wanted man to live by faith, to trust Him. The root of all sin is that man chose not to trust God, to believe what God has said. Man has chosen for himself what is right and wrong, independent of God. That is how sin entered the world. Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and that affected the entire human race. Now every person is born in the likeness of Adam in his sinful, broken state. All have sinned and all have died.

That is why Jesus came to this world, to save us from the condition of death, death to God, a separation from God in what was once a trusting and loving relationship between God and man. So God came to first take away the cause of death, which is sin, in order to offer new life to man. Salvation is new life in Christ, the Spirit of God to be placed back into man, to restore what was lost in the garden of Eden. This new life is received by faith, trust in God’s provision of his death, burial and resurrection, so that man is justified before God, given the right to become a child of God.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Be Thankful in Everything

Classic Christianity – Thanksgiving Part 4 (11-28-19)

Synopsis

Turn to Romans and read along as Bob explains its meaning. The book of Romans is a book of contrast between law and grace. The purpose of the law is for man to recognize his sinfulness, his condition of spiritual death, that he might seek a Savior in Jesus Christ. There is so much that the apostle Paul explains concerning the law; its purpose, it’s inability to make one righteous before God, it’s ministry of death to make man realize his sinful state. The law is like a mirror. A mirror can show dirt on the face but it has no power to remove the dirt. So too is the law to show man he is a sinner but there is no power in the law to make anyone righteous before God.

The law demands perfect obedience, which no man in his weakened sinful state could ever completely obey. As James said, if a man obeyed all of the law but failed at just one point, then he is guilty of breaking all of the law. A law without a penalty is no law at all. The law would have no meaning. God’s penalty for sin is spiritual death.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

A Righteousness From God

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P6 (10-30-19)

Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the key passage of Romans 1:16-17. In the gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed that is by faith from first to last, and is the power of God unto salvation for all who will believe. When you believe the gospel, accept Christ as your life, you are able to communicate with the living God, to know His love and to know and love Him. There are only two types of righteousness, self righteousness, which is really no righteousness at all, and God’s righteousness. The righteousness of God is revealed by the Holy Spirit, who is drawing all men to Himself.

If a man thinks he has righteousness of his own, by what he does or fails to do, then he is only comparing himself with others. Only two things can occur. You see yourself as better or worse than someone else. You are either puffed up in pride or are overcome with self condemnation. Either way, you are bound by deception and enslaved to sin. That is really what happens in religion. You have to have rules and regulations, and that just keeps you in deception and bondage.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
