Synopsis

In this world today, of riots and pillaging and murder in the streets, is that something that should shock us, as if that would never happen, in a world of sin and death? God said that in this world you will have trials and tribulations. So what happens when we do not hold onto the truth of what God has said? Do we even realize that there is an enemy called Satan, or have we been deceived into thinking he does not exist? If we think he does not exist, then who do people tend to blame? Do they not tend to blame God for causing or allowing these things to happen? Do we have unrealistic expectations, expectations different than what God told us to expect to happen? So why is this faith in Christ so vital for us to walk in, to believe what God has said and to act upon that belief?

But what else has God promised us. He said that He has overcome the world. And in Him there is peace that surpasses understanding. It is so wonderful to hear people call in to get answers to their questions. People are looking for truth, and desire to grow in Christ, from the newest believer to those serving as deacons. Pastors and teachers are a gift to the body of Christ, to equip them for works of service. A pastor cannot get bogged down in waiting on tables, but must have time in the word of God and time equipping a group of men, so that they too can counsel and disciple others. Recall the great commission Jesus spoke about to the eleven men he reached and sent out. He told them to teach them to teach others to obey everything He has taught them and to make disciples of men.

Now, to a new believer who asks you advice on how to stop doing the things he used to do as a non-believer, what would you tell him? So many people would tell him to do this and not do that, and it amounts to legalism. Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P21 (06-03-20)

Synopsis

We exercise faith every day. We trust the chair we sit in will hold us up, that the car we drive will get us to the intended destination, that the food we eat at a restaurant is not poisoned. In a similar way, faith in Christ Jesus is what allows us to access what He has already provided for us, to live in the new life He has given us. Our faith does not cause God to do something any more than swallowing causes you to live. The good food, not the junk food, is what causes you to live. Our faith allows us to access, or enter into what God has already given. Faith is trusting what God has said, in the promises that God has made, that He is able to fulfill what He has promised. As Jesus said, man shall live by the very words of God. That is our spiritual food that sustains us.

Synopsis

When you think of all those saints, those heroes of the faith that have gone on before us, we are to imitate their faith. What attitude of heart did they have? We read about many of them in the scriptures, and a sampling of them in Hebrews 11. Consider the faith of Abraham. The apostle Paul mentions the faith of Abraham when writing a letter to the Romans. God credited His faith as righteousness. Now, also consider Paul’s former way of life, when he was referred to as Saul of Tarsus. Paul described himself as the worst of all sinners. He had given approval to the death of Stephen. He went about trying to destroy the faith that he now proclaims. Did God ever give up on him? No. Has God ever given up on the Jews, these thousands of years? No. He has promised that all Israel will be saved. He will get their attention in the last days, and there will be a remnant who will accept Christ by faith. Synopsis

Knowing God and His word, the meaning of the word as revealed by the Spirit of God, is really useful for practical living.Sometimes you wonder what happens in religious denominations, if they even know God or His word. You have people who just do not think, believing the King James only bible, and those who are into legalism. It sure makes you wonder if they even have the Spirit, because if you have the Spirit living in you, you would think you would be led by the Spirit. You cannot be led by the spirit and be led by the law at the same time.

As a person led by the Spirit of God, you will begin to realize when something is not working, those old thinking patterns you used to have as a lost person. You might be struggling in your marriage. But little by little you hear truth, and that truth is maybe taught in a different way than how you have been taught in your local denomination you assemble with and it just helps you to walk free, in a new and different way.

Synopsis

Faith is the confidence of what we hope for. What do we hope for? Is it not meaning and purpose in life. But we cannot have meaning and purpose in life without God. You were created by God with a unique design. Just as a light bulb is created to function to be powered by electricity or an oil lamp to give light by having oil in it, or a car to move by having gasoline in it, for it was designed to function that way. Just as oil in the lamp is indispensable to the functioning of the lamp, or gasoline in a car is indispensable to the functioning of the car, God in the man is indispensable to the functioning of the man.

When God created man, He breathed in him the breath of life, the Spirit of God to live in him so he can know and communicate with the living God. The Spirit of God left man when man decided to function without God, that he can decide for himself what is right and what is wrong.
