The first four chapters of Ephesians explains what Christ means to us. Jesus Christ completed the work that he began in us. He did it all. He created the universe, recreated you and me, those born again spiritually, into a new creation. He has given us his life and became life for us. He has not just given us his life but he is our life. That is why the Apostle Paul could say:

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Prior to the day of Pentecost nobody is indwelt with the Spirit of God. The Spirit came on men for divine service and then could leave. That is why David prayed this prayer in the Psalms.

Psalm 51:11
Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
