When we are born again, we have the Holy Spirit living in us, but we also have sin-indwelling flesh. So there is this battle between the flesh and the spirit (Galatians 5:16-18). But as we learn to walk in the Spirit, we do not carry out the deeds of the flesh. We have in us everything we need for life and godliness so we can participate in the divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4). One hindrance we have in spiritual growth is the error and lies we have believed. Error is replaced with truth as we meditate on God’s word, relying on the Lord to renew our minds (Romans 12:1-2). His word is truth (John 17:17), and Jesus, who is the living Word (John 1:1,14), tells us that the truth shall set you free (John 8:32).

Sharing the Gospel With Loved Ones

As believers, we have a great desire for our loved ones to hear the gospel, receive the message and believe so they can experience all that God wants for them. If a mother is dying then you at least want to know if you will see your mother again in heaven with you, since the amount time remaining for her to even grow in Christ is limited or impossible. Bob and Amy George had the privilege to lead Amy’s dad to Christ a few weeks before he had to go back to Russia, under unbelievable obstacles and circumstances. That is so wonderful to hear and read about in Amy’s book, Goodbye is Not Forever. And, in Bob’s book, Classic Christianity, Bob shares about how his dad came to know Jesus also. Synopsis

It is so important to understand what God Himself says is the gospel that saves. In 1 Corinthians 15, we read that it is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Nothing else. There is no baptism, church attendance, speaking in tongues, going to a confessional booth, seven sacraments, quoting 1 John 1:9 to keep yourself in fellowship, saved. Those latter things are things taught by the traditions of men. The word of God does not say such things. Your confidence in the gospel must be in what God Himself says it is, and that you have allowed the Holy spirit to reveal that truth to you. Your confidence must not be in the denominational persuasions of men, or what any pastor, priest or man says, for they could be teaching error.

So many people go through life hanging onto what they have been taught, whether right or wrong. All of us need encouragement in this fallen world we live in. As Jesus warned us so many times, let no man deceive you. All of us have been deceived one time or another and are all subject to deception. Many of us grew up in some denomination or cult even, and some of us came to the knowledge of the truth. We came to realize God’s word is truth, and anything contrary to that is to be rejected as from men. Not all men are deliberately deceiving you. Many are simply passing on what they heard from others.
