Do people really understand what faith is? Is faith something you concentrate on for God to do something, that you could cause God to act? No, that would put you in the position of the initiator. We were born dead, and now as a born again believer, apart from Him we can do nothing. We are responders. We respond to what he has already done, and in what he has said and has already given. You have been given everything you need for life and godliness. That does not mean you live in independent from God.

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P21 (12-11-19)

Synopsis

This passage of scripture, in this 5^th chapter of Romans, is one of the most important chapters in the entire bible. It takes the whole deal and encapsulates the entire gospel in Christ. Looking at just Romans 5:10, we have an explanation of how God reconciled the world unto himself. Sadly, many people have not understood the latter part of this verse, that we are saved by his life.

You are not saved by the death of Christ. You are saved by the life of Christ. His death is what was necessary to prepare us for salvation, and is necessary for salvation. For if Jesus did not die to take away the sins of the entire world, the next time man sinned he would die again. But death does not give life. Life gives life.

Forgiveness also does not give life. This also is the most understood doctrine, what salvation is. Untold thousands of people understand salvation as getting your sins forgiven. But that is not salvation. Yet, there are people, such as Calvinists, who think that salvation is getting your sins forgiven.

Synopsis

The first four books of Romans laid the foundation of the need of all mankind for salvation. Both Jew and Gentile were addressed as both spiritually dead, sinners by nature. Whether under the law or apart from the law, they are both spiritually dead since birth. Sin and death entered the world through one man’s sin, Adam, the first created being.

Now, in chapter 5, Paul is addressing the solution of man’s problem. Man’s problem is greater than sin. His greatest problem is he is spiritually dead. Sin caused his death. So until the problem of sin is taken away, salvation cannot be offered. Now, two fundamental questions need to be understood. What is death? What is salvation?

So often in today’s religious world, people are burdened under legalism. They may or may not have understood the gospel of God’s grace. They might possibly heard only a half gospel, incorrectly thinking that they must ask for forgiveness or even keep asking for God’s forgiveness but have not heard about coming to Christ for life. Sadly, many churches will teach people to keep short accounts with God. Even if a person is born again, they got under legalistic teaching, and you got under teaching, that if you keep on sinning, God is going to turn His back on you. Bob George was asked questions on forgiveness and salvation. Do you need to ask God for forgiveness when you sin? Do you need to confess your sins to God to get forgiveness? If you sin as a child of God, how do you confess your sin? What are you doing as a child of God when you confess your sin? If you do so many stupid things, should you feel guilty? Are people forgiven only when they accept Christ?

Bob was also asked what spiritual warfare means. Is it spiritual warfare when you are fighting kidney stones or some physical ailment?

Synopsis

The disciples are with Jesus for three years but not understanding these things that Jesus had come to do. How could they? They did not have the Holy Spirit living in them. We do not naturally understand these things. We can be in church all our lives. We can hear about Jesus birth, his death, and that he died and was raised from the dead yet we ourselves can still be dead to the things of God. We could still be spiritually dead. Do you know your condition of spiritual death? Do you know that Jesus is God? Do you know He wants to live inside you by His spirit? Do you now what his death did for you personally? Do yo know why he rose from the dead for you? Do you know why he went back to His Father in heaven? Do you know he did these things in order to give life to you so you can live a new way?
