Jesus is Head of the Church

Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P694 (12-10-21)

Context is Important for Proper Understanding of the Word of God

Context of scripture is key to understanding the Word of God. We are all guilty at times for glossing over key parts of the bible and tend to base our analysis of a verse of scripture here or there, based on our own understanding or those traditions that have been taught to us by other men. Bob George would say repeatedly, “don’t believe what I say, but check it out for yourself in the word of God.” He emphasized that he could be saying something wrong himself and to be a Berean and go back and verify things. Ultimately, trust in the Holy Spirit to teach you the meaning of the word of God.

First off, it is important to understand that the Apostle Paul was an Israelite. We tend to overlook the obvious so many times in scripture. So when Paul speaks of two different groups of people he is speaking in terms of the Israelites of being under the Old Covenant, and now Gentiles and Israelites in the New Covenant as one group of people. We are all … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Your Identity in Christ Jesus

Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P662 (08-19-21)

If God Made You Holy, Set Apart as a Child of God, Walk in that Unity in Spirit and Grow in Truth

In the world today, you may hear people say, “I am a Christian too” But the word Christian has a different connotation of meaning to different people. You used to hear people say that if you are born in America, you are a Christian because this is a Christian nation. Mormons, Protestants and Catholics all say they are Christian, yet they all have different doctrinal beliefs. Others will say that they are a Christian because they were born into a Christian home. Then you may hear or read about “COEXIST”, as if all religions of the world believe the same way, or if they do not, it is just minor doctrinal differences. A person will say that all we need to do is just love one another. That we just all need to get along. The emphasis in the world today is often on unity, to build bridges with other belief systems, with the assumption that we can achieve unity apart from truth, as if everybody can define whatever … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus is The Mediator of the New Covenant

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The New Covenant P30 (08-02-21)

Be Sure to Enter God’s Rest Today!

As we ponder over Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4, what is this “Sabbath rest that still remains“? What does it mean to “enter God’s rest” and “rest from their works just as God rested from His”? As we read these passages in Hebrews, it is referring back to a time in the history of the Israelites, in Numbers 13-14, where God instructed them to enter the promised land, a land flowing with milk and honey. God had promised this land to them. Everything is prepared and ready. They do not have to do any work to enjoy the fruit of the land. God also said He would destroy the enemies before them.

As we read the story, you may recall that only Joshua and Caleb later entered the promised land because they believed God. Everyone else wandered in a wilderness for forty years until all of that generation died off, for God had sworn that they shall never enter His rest because of their unbelief. Recall their many sins were already atoned for by the temporary sacrificial system in existence at … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus Will Give You a New Heart

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The New Covenant P9 (06-14-21)

Synopsis

As you read the book of Hebrews, you will come to understand the New Covenant we are under today, with so many precious promises for us. The writer of Hebrews contrasts this covenant with the Old Covenant that it replaced. The Old Covenant was conditional in nature, and was to the people of Israel, that if they could keep all the requirements of the law, the law of Moses, with all its ten commandments and regulations, God would be their God and they would be His people. But man could not keep that, and neither could you and I today, who think we can do better in obeying the ten commandments of Moses, and come up with our own religious system that we might approach God.

So to understand the need of the New Covenant, you have to understand the problem of all mankind. You have to understand what caused our death, and that there is only one solution to death and that is life, but not a temporal life, but eternal life. That life is a life that God intended for mankind to have when He … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Salvation is Life in God Jesus

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The New Covenant P6 (06-07-21)

Synopsis

Have you ever asked, “What is the purpose of the law?” If you turn to Galatians 3:19-24, you have your answer. Why is this important to know? Bob George uses several illustrations to help explain this. He used illustrations of a hammer and a mirror. And, if we know what our role is, as ministers of a New Covenant (2 Corinthians 3:6), not of an Old Covenant, then we have a sure foundation in truth. This presumes you understand the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant and that the New Covenant replaced the old one (Hebrews 8:7-9).

So a hammer is made for the purpose of building a house. In the hands of a carpenter then it can build something useful. But in the hands of a murderer, it can be used to beat someone in the head with. So there is nothing wrong with a hammer, but how it is used depends on whose hands it is in. So what do people do with the law? They use it as a means to obtain righteousness, or right standing, before God, and then use … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus is the Initiator

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The New Covenant P5 (06-02-21)

Synopsis

When you read the Old Testament, you get a better understanding and visual picture of why we need a New Covenant. In my growing up, the ten commandments were taught as something to live by and memorize. I am not sure what people still think about the ten commandments today, because in my state, the ten commandments were ordered to be taken down from the capitol grounds, and I would hear from church-going people that Roy Moore needs to stand down and obey the law of the land. But the point is, the ten commandments is something closely tied to the conscience that God has created in mankind as something that is holy, righteous and good. In Muslim countries, I have heard that if you steal gold out of a store, because they do not have such items locked up in a case, then you can get your hand chopped off. That is overly harsh punishment to me, but the point is they would not have such a law if they thought stealing was not wrong.

Many churches used to, and maybe still do, teach the ten … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
