Synopsis

Many times young people are taught to memorize scripture. I am not sure if they are even taught to read the bible on their own. So we create little smart-sounding people that get rewarded for how many verses they memorize. But the real question is, do they understand what they memorized, and in context? Otherwise, we have essentially trained a computer to spit out what is put in.

Other people have been trained that certain people who have special training, are the only ones that have the corner on truth. In some denominations, you are taught that only the Magisterium can interpret the bible, and talk of something called oral tradition as of greater value in knowing what truth is. The problem with denominations, whether Protestant, Catholic or anything else, people are taught denominational persuasions of men. How would you know if what you are being taught is true or not?

So many people go through life hanging onto what they have been taught, whether right or wrong. If something is repeatedly shared since your youth, and you do not stop to ponder your life and your ways, you may die in that state. What a sad and heart-breaking way to live, either lost or without joy in your life, not experiencing the abundant life God had promised. Have you just stopped to think about your life? Why are tears streaming down my face? Certainly you can have tears when you lose a job or your own son suddenly dies under circumstances that should not have happened. Let us learn what it means to build on a new foundation. That also means we need to destroy the old foundation, whatever it is made of, denominational sand, New Age thinking, worldly thinking, whatever it might be, and replace that foundation with the bedrock of Jesus Christ. As an analogy, you can liken that to erasing a chalkboard of false mathematical equations with the correct mathematical equations, otherwise you are easily confused when you have old information mixed with new information, and are tempted to use the old information you are so comfortable with. So we allow Christ to live His life in us and through us by having our minds renewed with truth, of who God is, so that new attitudes of heart are formed in us, the attitudes of servitude, of humility and dependency that are in Christ Jesus, and modeled perfectly by Christ as He walked on this earth, in appearance as a man, being God, but functioning as a man for our sakes. We imitate His faith, not His actions. Actions are a result of attitudes, a result of dependency on Christ, being internally led by the Spirit of God who lives in us.
