Synopsis

Bob received calls from several callers, asking common questions asked in the world still today. Danny asked, “Do you believe in the Trinity?” John asked, “What does Romans 8:17 mean that ‘we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory’?” Sam essentially asked, “What about the person who has never had the opportunity to hear the gospel message?” You may have heard a similar question, “What about the heathen in Africa?” From the scriptures, Bob explains the Trinity, that God is the Father, God is the Son and God is the Holy Spirit but there is only one God; about the sufferings of Christians, that we do not look for suffering but sufferings will inevitably come, and that there is no person who has not heard but even if there was, we leave that decision to God, who will do what is right in accordance with who He is, a perfectly loving and just God.

Sam also asked a more specific question about the Muslim who has never heard, since he was just raised Muslim all his life. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 40 (07-02-19)

Bob George shares a very practical message of the meaning of the gospel as he continues sharing from the gospel of John. He begins in John 8, where Jesus identifies himself as the light of the world, contrasting darkness (the lost, the dead) with the light (the saved, with life). You are not going into the market place telling people how sinful they are but how dead they are. No man will ever go to hell because of his sins but only because of the sin of the rejection of life. If you reject life you remain dead (John 3:36). If you reject the offer of forgiveness you remain unforgiven. You who are in Christ have good news to tell people. It is a very practical message of the meaning of the gospel. You, who are in Christ Jesus, are His ambassadors.

Bob George explains why Jesus came to this earth to say what he did and do what he did, culminating in his death, burial and resurrection. Tony asked a question about false prophets, those men who say they heard from God. Nobody today is getting direct words from God. Those who prophecy today are proclaiming truth from the scriptures that have now been closed. The canon has been closed. Anyone proclaiming words of the Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses or the other cults is not a prophet.

Stacey asked about why Jesus was tempted when he is God and He is never tempted. Bob cleared up her misunderstanding. Someone can be presented the temptation to sin, but if you are perfect like God then that really is not a temptation to you. Sin was offered to Jesus by Satan is what is being said here but Jesus is not ever tempted by sin that he should sin. If I were offered a cigarette or drugs, I would walk away or turn it down because I never desired or was given to that kind of temptation.

Julie called to ask if living with someone outside marriage is wrong. Bob said it is sin and explained the simple gospel message. She was making excuses for her behavior and Bob was firm with truth, extending grace, but firmly instructing her to make right choices. Chip called to simply thank Bob for his teaching on the finality of the cross, the reality of the resurrection and the New Covenant of grace. Chip had spent much time living in the flesh, being condemned when reading scriptures, until he was able to grasp such truth. Katie called, with great emotional pain, for her husband left her. Bob encouraged her and reminded her to think truthfully, take every thought captive, trust God for tomorrow and live day by day, continually giving thanks to God in all things. He further instructed her on living by the Spirit. Bob instructed her to trust the Lord to provide your needs, particularly unconditional love and acceptance, which you cannot receive from a spouse. Bob explained that the root cause of divorce is demanding such things from a spouse they cannot meet. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 24 (05-22-19)

Bob George shares from John 5, on the testimony of the Father concerning Jesus. Bob emphasized the life of the Holy Spirit living in a person, producing the fruit of the Spirit. That ultimately is the work Jesus came to do. One characteristic of the Spirit is love (Galatians 5:22-23). Then he shares from 1 Corinthians 13, explaining how Jesus came to expose the pride in man, that he may humble himself, recognize his state of spiritual death, and come to walk in the newness of life, with the Spirit of God living in him. The opposite of love is not hate, but pride. As a born again person, Jesus is showing us today how to live in dependence on the Holy Spirit of God. He is the vine and we are the branches. We love because he first loved us. Allow the love of he Holy Spirit to be produced in you and through you.

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 23 (05-21-19)

Bob George continues teaching from John 5. He shares again about the Holy Spirit, how this person of the Trinity is our guide and counselor. God sent Jesus to explain how to live in total dependence on the Holy Spirit. Jesus emptied himself of his divine attributes, lived as a man like us, except without sin and lived in total dependence of His Father. So we, who are born again, should let the Spirit of God, living in us, guide us into all truth and counsel us. The Holy Spirit instructs us, showing us the error in our thinking, in order to replace error in our minds with truth. So let us walk in the Spirit and see this fruit be produced in us and through us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

Bob George also shared the process that takes place in the mind of an unbeliever for him to come to Christ. The law at work, with the drawing of the Holy Spirit, reveals to him his condition of spiritual death.
