Synopsis

It is so vitally important to form convictions on what truth is, so that it changes the attitudes of your heart based on what is true, and ultimately shows in your behavior. How are these convictions formed? By what man says? Or by what the Spirit of God reveals to you through His word? But what if you do not understand what the word of God means? How do you know that what you hear are words taught from men or from God?

First of all, do you even believe the word of God is what it is, the very words of God, inerrant and they are alive and active, profitable and useful to you, applicable to your problems of today, whether bulimia, anorexia, drunkenness, dysfunctional families, and whatever struggles and issues you are facing today, by whatever label man puts on those things? Do you see the issues of life as something that are modern day problems that have to be addressed by a psychologist or a psychiatrist?

Faith in Jesus Sets the Believer Apart

Synopsis

It is so easy to have errors in your head. All you have to do is be born into this world, in the sin nature of Adam, and be exposed to the god of this world. God wanted to restore our thinking, so it is based on truth, in Him who is truth. But we grow hearing things, even from denominations or whatever church we grew up in. We hear things like, “I am just a sinner saved by grace.” If you are in Christ, is that true? Not according to the word of God, it isn’t. You are a saint who sometimes sins. You have a new identity called a child of God, a saint by calling, in accordance with who you are. So we must hear truth, and allow that truth to dispel error. That is growing in the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Truth comes through revelation by the Spirit of God through the word of God.

Synopsis

If you enjoy history, and you had the opportunity of seeing people in Israel, seeing the Roman coliseums, seeing the Jews dressed in the style of clothing that you see pictures of in the history books, it makes an impression on you. Now consider that the Jews living back then saw Jesus just like any other man. Jesus came in appearance as a man, and if it were not for the overwhelming evidence, it would be difficult to believe someone claiming Himself to be God. How much harder would it have been for them?

Yet, the same is true today as it was then. If any man desires to know God, God will reveal Himself to him and make Himself known to him. But if a man wants to rely on his religion, then his heart will not be open to truth, and that is so sad.

Today, we have the scriptures recorded down for us by those who were eyewitnesses of Christ Jesus, who saw all that happened concerning Jesus of Nazareth, and who also had the scriptures of the prophets. Jesus Wants to Give You His Spirit

Synopsis

As long as we live here on this earth in our flesh, we will face this conflict between what the flesh desires and what the Spirit desires. This is due to the sin-indwelling flesh we inherited in Adam that always wants to demand its own way. But we died to its control over us when we were born again. The Spirit of God took residence in us, and so we have a new identity as a child of God, learning to walk by faith, listening to the Spirit’s voice. The Spirit lives in us to teach us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions.

When we were born again, the flesh did not die but what did die is our identity as a sinner, from being a slave to sin to being set free in grace. We have been set free from the law of sin and death and have now been put under control of a new master. Sin still indwells our flesh but we don’ t have to be mastered by it. Synopsis

As you read prophecy fulfilled, think beyond just that it happened and that it was fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Ask the Lord to reveal to you the meaning of the word of God to you, a spiritual meaning, a spiritual lesson that you can grab a hold of.

Oftentimes we read about the Pharisees or Judas Iscariot, and we might think we would never be like them. But, do you get caught up in the present affairs of this world, of unfolding events like you read about in Revelation. Instead of keeping your focus on Christ, you want to take matters into your own hands. Well, what if Jesus was walking here today, and you were so focused on your own agenda, to make America free. You do not like the way events are unfolding. So you let anger creep inside of you, and you decide to take matters into your own hands. You manipulate leaders and people to do your bidding, and get behind a leader to act in a certain way. But that leader has a different agenda. He does not take action like you expect.

If you have not already, get a copy of A Closer Look at Jesus Christ. We have studied the person of Jesus Christ, Who Did Jesus Christ Claim to Be?, A Madman or God in the Flesh. We read from the scriptures what Jesus claimed about Himself, that He is God. Then the question was asked, Who Do You Say that I Am?. If you have concluded that Jesus is God, and came to offer you eternal life, then an explanation was given of what it means to be Receiving the Offer of Life. Now we are studying What Others Claimed About Jesus Christ. So today we read what John the apostle said concerning Jesus Christ.

In summary, God sent Jesus into this world to save that which is lost. When someone is lost, it is good to know someone is looking for him. The person who is lost is mankind, each and every person born into this world. All of us were born into this world spiritually dead, and in need of new life, God’s life.
