A Closer Look Bible Studies

Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P439 (5-10-19)

Bob answers several questions from radio callers on the original People to People radio that was on the air for over 30 years. Andy asked about what day believers should celebrate Christmas for he heard that that date was really the birthday of a pagan god and Christmas has pagan origins. Bob answered that the date is not important for you are not celebrating a date but the birth of Christ. Bob’s advice is to not get involved in disputable issues.

Julie called to ask Bob about his viewpoint on living with someone outside of marriage. Julie was rationalizing her sin of fornication, specifically called out in scripture as sinful behavior. We should never get to the point of calling something good that is bad, calling something other than what God calls it, which is sin. We may not be able to carry it out and that is why Christ came to dwell in you by His Spirit. But if you do not deal with what is true then how then can you change to live in the new way of the Spirit that God has called you to live as a born again believer?… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

You Are Reconciled to God

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 18 (05-08-19)

Bob George shares again the good news of the gospel, sharing truth from scriptures that he has compiled into a little booklet titled, “Born Free”. What is our part, as believers in Christ?

2 Corinthians 5:20
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

Recall that which Christ has done for us, the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19
18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:21
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

We are saved by His life, the cross was not an end in itself, but a means of accomplishing the end – that of restoring life that had been lost through sin.

Colossians 1:21-22
21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Born Free

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 17 (05-07-19)

Bob George answers the question, “What is the gospel?”. Starting from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Bob explains that Jesus died, was buried and was raised from the dead and appeared to you. This is the gospel that saves you, with nothing added to it. The gospel that saves is the message of what Christ has done to take away the consequences of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is life. Bob wrote a booklet titled , “Born Free”, that explains the gospel message. There are five main thoughts Bob shares concerning the gospel message.

  1. Man’s problem : Man is spiritually dead and in need of life
  2. God’s Solution : God has provided life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
  3. Before life could be given, sins had to be forgiven (taken away)
  4. The Good News of the Gospel – “It is finished”
  5. In Him you are a new creation.

Our decision is to turn from our unbelief and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our life. Salvation is crossing over from death to life and is by faith alone. The good news of the gospel is “It is finished”. What is our part?… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Worship in Spirit and Truth

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 14 (04-30-19)

Bob George shared from John chapter 4 on Jesus encounter with a Samaritan woman. The Jews hated the Samaritans and the Samaritans hated the Jews. It was not customary for a Jew to even go through Samaria let alone talk to a Samaritan. But Jesus would meet with a Samaritan woman. After talking about living water, she asked Jesus to give her this living water. Jesus told to her to get her husband and come back. When she said she had no husband, Jesus told her she has had five husbands and the man she is living with now is not her husband.

John 4:19-20
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

She said to Jesus, “You are a prophet for how could you know these things. Then, being ashamed, changed the subject. We, Samaritans, worship on this mountain called Mount Gerizim. Yet, you Jews worship on Jerusalem. In today’s language, it would be like saying: “You people claim you have the only church but we have a church too.”… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

The Spirit of Jesus Christ

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 13 (04-29-19)

Bob George explains from the book of John what it means to be born again. When you are born again, scripture tells us that Spirit of God comes to live in you. In Romans, you read that without the Spirit of God you do not belong to Him.

Romans 8:9
You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.

You cannot be born again unless born of the Spirit.

John 3:34
For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

Jesus came to this earth, as God in the flesh, totally emptying himself of his divine attributes in order to show us what full dependence on the holy Spirit as a man looks like. Still fully God, Jesus came to speak the words of God.

When you are born again, the Spirit comes to live inside you. The Spirit of God places you into the body of Christ, Christ in you and you in Christ.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Baptism and the Lords Supper

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 11 (04-23-19)

Bob George TeachingBob resumes the study of the gospel of John. He introduces John chapter 4, but first, he revisits John chapter 3. This is one of the most important chapters because it teaches us how to enter a brand new relationship with Christ Jesus. We not only come to him to be our Lord and Savior but also to be our teacher.

Bob shares again how man is already dead in sin, born in the nature of Adam. Man cannot give spiritual life to man because he does not have spiritual life in himself. But a man was sent from heaven to explain heavenly things to man. God sent Jesus to redeem man from the consequences of sin, which is death. Satan deceived man and man chose to believe the lie. Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy but God sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, not to condemn the world, but to save man through him. Man was condemned already. Man is dead and in need of life.

God provided for man what he could never do for himself. Jesus took away all the sins of the world when he died on the cross.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
