Growing in Grace: Study the Word to Get to Know the Author, Who lives in you

If you just recently became a new believer, born again by the Spirit of God, then you need to grow. Just as a baby born physically of a mom and dad, there is a need for food and exercise, as well as just getting to know your parents, that has to occur. So too, when you are born again from above, by the Spirit of God, the Spirit is placed in you so you can get to know the one who made you into a new creation. The food is the word of God and the one who reveals the meaning of the word of God to you is the Spirit of God who lives in you.

So as a new born infant in Christ, not much is expected of you. You certainly do not expect much fruit out of a baby any more than you can expect a baby to be driving a car. All of us have a past, and we did things we are not proud of, some more than others, as far as the types of sins we did, that are particularly sensitive. Take the example of the apostle Paul, for example. He formerly persecuted Christians prior to his conversion, dragging mothers and fathers apart, putting them in prison, being quite a violent man. You also have men like Nikki Cruz of the true story documented, in The Cross and the Switchblade, with such a horrible past in gang-related crimes as a New York city gang leader, yet he responded to the gospel message and became a changed man. In both cases, they both now share their testimony, not in great detail, but enough for people to know he is not who he used to be. That could be true if you were a former lesbian or a child molester with prison time. That is what you used to be or do, but God got a hold of your heart and you are changed.

Sometimes we struggle with answering questions that non-believers ask. They do not know the Lord so they ask questions without understanding and also from a perspective of the world. They could be caught up in believing all kinds of things that are not even true, like someone has a hex on them, or not believing the truth, that Jesus is God or the Trinity, that God is one, and there is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Many times they have a negative attitude toward religion, and whenever they hear the word Jesus, they automatically associate all that they hate about religion with Jesus, not distinguishing the difference between the two. I assure you there is nothing to hate about Jesus, but there is certainly much to hate about religion, the legalism and the lists of rules and regulations, and even false doctrine and a false gospel even though they use the name of Jesus, but certainly not the Jesus of the bible. Who is Jesus Christ, and by knowing that, what does that mean to me personally? That is the question of the century. Certainly he is a man of history, someone who walked on this earth, as even our calendars are divided into B.C. and A.D. There were prophecies recorded down in the scriptures that predicted what would the promised Messiah would do, as spoken by the prophets.

Then we read about the eyewitnesses of Jesus Christ, while he was on this earth, and he fulfilled every one of those prophecies. Then we had the testimony of Jesus’ interaction with Mary Magdalene, his mother Mary, his disciples and the afflicted, who recognized who he is and bowed down and worshiped him. Synopsis

Often times people have called into the Classic Christianity radio program with questions to help them know how to apply teaching or to get clarification on teaching they have heard that seems to conflict with what the Lord is beginning to teach them. Others simply call to thank Bob for the teaching of truth that has helped them to walk free of legalistic teaching, and want to encourage Bob to continue teaching truth.

More often than not, Bob will explain more thoroughly about the New Covenant we are under. Often times people will read something out of the gospels, such as Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, or the book of Acts, and struggle understanding what it means. The starting point to understand truth is to first of all be born again, having the Spirit of God living in you. Then as you read God’s word, you allow the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to you.

Bob received a call by Patsy, who wanted guidance or reassurance in regards to actions she had taken with a granddaughter who had chosen to live a lesbian lifestyle. Bob reassured her that what Patsy did was in accordance with truth and love for her granddaughter. You do not have to be a believer to know that the actions of your granddaughter is sin. Bob explains Romans 12 in regards to this kind of perverse mind and also the actions taken by the apostle Paul in regards to a similar sexual perversion that occurred in the midst of the believers in 1 Corinthians. So Patsy did what was right to send her granddaughter back to her parents because of her persistent rebellion. Bob and Patsy were in agreement in the truth on this.
