Perfect Love Drives Out All Fear

Do you really love God? People are living in fear today, and those that are living in fear are not really loving God. People think they love God, yet they don’t know the Love of God. They don’t know that God loves them. They are still trying to perform for God so in turn God would do something for them.

When we understand God’s love for us, it changes our world completely. We may understand God’s love for us when we first come to Him for salvation (eternal life), but then we lose sight of it for our daily living. We get on our own performance track, thinking that we’ve got to do something in order for God to do something ongoing with us. We need to learn that is NOT how God deals with us at all. God is love, and His Love lives in us. This is key to our understanding and walking in the love of God.

1 John 4:16-21
¹⁶ And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.

Many times people have questions that they want answers to but do not know who to call or talk to. So it is wonderful to have had a program like this where a person can call and get answers to their questions. The bible is true and is reliable for truth. At times a person will call in because they are in a conversation with a person who has a different bible than ours, such as Catholics which also have the Apocrypha included in it. Other times a person calls in to ask about what this judging another person is about. Another person calls in because he is troubled by what he sees as the trends in society, such as the acceptance of homosexuality as an alternative lifestyle or people saying they are born that way. Have you understood what faith is? Faith must have an object. It is more than an intellectual assent to facts or some sort of faith in some mystery, that nobody knows what that mystery is. I can know that Abraham Lincoln died in Ford’s theater and by believing that, that does not have any impact on my life. I can even go to church, thinking that if I go to church then somehow God will accept me, or my good deeds will outweigh my bad. I can think that I can get all my sins confessed that built up during the week off my chest. I could be doing that whether I was going to a Catholic mass or even sitting in my own bedroom quoting 1 John 1:9, but all the while wondering if I missed confessing some sin. I could even think that I came to Jesus to get all my sins forgiven, and then still doing those confessing of sins as well. People can grow up in any number of evangelical denominations and not really understand what salvation is, the meaning of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, what that really accomplished for mankind and for you personally. If you were to ask a person what salvation is, some will say it is a process you have to go through while others will say it is that Jesus died for my sins, and that is it. Others will even say you can lose your salvation. People who say such things do not know what salvation is. So to help a person, first you have to know what salvation is, what truth is as revealed by the Spirit of God from the scriptures. Then to engage the person in conversation, you might ask him, “What is your understanding of salvation?”

Synopsis

How can mortal man know God? Who can know the thoughts of God, the one who created all there is, who spoke the world and the universe into existence, and who created us? What is it about mankind that we ponder things of eternity, asking questions such as “Why am I here?”, “Where am I going when I die?” and “What is the meaning and purpose of life?” There is a general notion of emptiness, of a certain longing inside of mankind, to be made complete.

Why does mankind form religions to attempt to answer these questions of life? There is a conscience built into mankind, knowing that murder is wrong, knowing that stealing is wrong? So man instinctively knows the law. But man, being weak in his natural self, cannot obey the law. He thinks he can improve himself and ultimately appease some God out there, a God he does not personally know, but instead substitutes a god of his own imagination, not based on truth.

Synopsis

People often ask questions from scripture, and get focused on a word or two in a translation that gets them confused. The key is you hold onto truth in scripture you know are true, and do not let less clear scripture conflict with what you know is true. For if you are in Christ Jesus, you know the gospel you have come to understand and have believed in. Instead, it usually means you need to check it out with another translation and also read more of the passage in its entire context.

An example of that is the passage in 2 Corinthians 5:9-10. Is it really about judgment, as if we are going to be judged, or punished by God, for the bad things we have done in our flesh? No. God already dealt with sin once and for all when He shed His blood on a cross. The gospel has made that clear, where other scriptures clearly reveal that, as in Hebrews, where Jesus promised us that He remembers our sins no more and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
