Righteousness is Credited by Faith

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Faith, Hope & Love P22 (06-08-20)

Synopsis

Now this faith in Christ is in conflict with the desires of the flesh. Do we really realize how wretched we are without Christ? Paul once thought he could obey the law. He thought he could conquer coveting. But he discovered that the more he tried to not covet, he coveted all the more. What is that? The flesh having mastery over you. He cried out, “Oh, what a wretched man I am! Who can save me from this? Praise be to God through Jesus Christ my Lord!”

So what do people try to do to conquer problems of the flesh, whether it be over-eating, drug addiction, bulimia, anorexia, alcoholism, or even to quit smoking? Can you stop? With enough will power and determination, as a non-believer, you could stop the behavior. But even if you did, does it solve the root problem of your behavior? All such behavior has one thing in common, it is sin-indwelling flesh at the core of the problem. Many psychologists are not believers and can only give you a solution from the world, to get you to stop your behavior by disciplining your flesh.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

The Holy Spirit is Telling You Jesus is God
Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P527 (04-09-20)

Synopsis

I have heard believers, when reading the scriptures, Christians come across the passage in Matthew 12 where Jesus says that every kind of sin can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. With such a strong statement, people have wondered if they have committed such a sin. What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? First, Jesus spoke while living during the time of the Old Covenant, while proclaiming the New Covenant to come. He spoke that he would prove the world wrong about righteousness, judgment and sin, and about sin, because of unbelief in Him (John 16:7-11). So, the world’s sin is unbelief in Jesus. Blaspheming against the Holy Spirit is refusing to believe in the totality of the godhead; that God the Father sent the Son into this world to take away the sins of the world. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth about God to men, testifying that Jesus is the promised Messiah, God in the flesh. So the only sin attributable to man is the sin of unbelief in Jesus, that after having taken away the sins of the entire world, he was raised to new life to offer new life to men.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus First Loved Us

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P56 (03-17-20)

Synopsis

Romans 13:8 summarizes for us this continual need of love in our hearts. So many people mistake the gospel that saves as the gospel of love, as if by your ability to love, to love God and your neighbor as yourself, is something you do so you become like Christ in order to be saved. That is not the gospel. Love is a fruit of the Spirit, something we never had and could never produce apart from the the Spirit of God. Without the Spirit of God living in us, we do not have anything. But when you are born again, the Spirit of God is placed in you, and by abiding in Him, you allow the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), love being one characteristic, to be produced in you and through you.

So among the Jews and the Gentiles, God formed a new body, the Ekklesia, the body of Christ, made up of both the born again Jew and the born again Gentile. As these born again people are being renewed in their minds, they learn to live in harmony with one another. When you believed in Christ Jesus, received Him by faith, you were given the right to become children of God.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus is Love

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P42 (02-12-20)

Synopsis

As children of God, we have the privilege to participate in the divine nature. Before, we did not have such a privilege, because you cannot participate in what you do not yet have, the Spirit of God living in you. But, everyone is born with free will. Adam and Eve were born with the choice to love God or to choose for themselves what is right and wrong, and good and evil. When they chose wrong, sin and death entered this world, the Spirit of God left mankind, for all have sinned, and all have died.

So since the fall of Adam, we were all born spiritually dead, without the Spirit of God living in us. Then Jesus took away the cause of death, which is sin, by becoming sin for us, when he shed his blood on a cross. Now, man has a choice to accept the life of Christ. For when Jesus rose from the dead, he now offers eternal life, the same life that raised him from the dead, to all who will come to him to receive that life. Again, man has a choice to reject this life of Christ or to accept it.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Purpose of The Law

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P27 (01-08-19)

Synopsis

In Romans, Paul uses several illustrations in explaining truth of living under grace. He uses an illustration of marriage to illustrate that we are to die to the law of sin and death and live to another, Jesus Christ our Lord. So a husband who dies, then the woman he was married to is free to marry another man. She is no longer bound to the law of marriage since her husband has died.

As Paul uses various illustrations, the illustration of master and slaves and the law of marriage, he is explaining truth to people who were so accustomed to living under the law of Moses. They perverted the law and made into a means to obtaining righteousness. The truth he taught went against everything the Jewish world at that time believed to be true. As it was in that day, so it is still today. There is still Jewish orthodoxy under strict legalism, that forbids spitting on the ground on the Sabbath. You even have a Sabbat elevator to prevent work on the Sabbath.

You also have the church world today that puts people under law. You have heard pastors, and so have I said much legalistic things.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Freed From The Law of Sin and Death

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P26 (01-07-19)

Synopsis

Romans 5 and Romans 8 get into the heart of life in Christ Jesus. Paul, appealing to men who are lost, without understanding, anticipates common questions that could be asked. So there is a pause between Romans 5 and Romans 8. In between, in Romans 6 and Romans 7, Paul is going to answer three basic questions.

Romans 6:1
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

Romans 6:15 (NASB)
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

Romans 7:7
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful?

The lost person cannot discern the things of the Spirit. So he answers according to the natural man. So if sin causes grace to increase, why not just sin more so grace increases. To the lost person, still dead in sin, sin is pleasurable to him. There is pleasure in sin for a season, but it takes its toll over time, and has you bound in death. A person who responds this way has not come to the end of the law. He has not understood the purpose of the law.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
