As a new believer, you will tend to have more of a struggle in overcoming sinful habits, and that is not unusual, as you are just now on the starting line of having your mind renewed. Even as you mature in Christ, you will continue in that process of having your mind renewed until the day we meet the Lord. We will all continue to battle the flesh, and God knows our weaknesses and tendencies. We are all reminded to guard our life and doctrine closely and take heed that we do not fall, and to be gentle and humble toward others, as we ourselves could easily get caught up in any sin ourselves. Along with allowing God to change us, our thinking and attitudes of heart, to let your actions be in accordance with who you are as a child of God, then your emotions will follow. Christ in You Is Your Hope of Glory; No Matter What the Sin, God’s Grace is Greater; Let Us Live Under Grace Not Law

We can certainly celebrate the day of Pentecost, if we choose to do so, for that is the first time in history that Christ came to indwell men permanently. Prior to the cross, the Holy Spirit came upon people for divine service, but the Spirit could also leave because of sin. That is why David prayed for the Spirit to not depart from him after committing both adultery and murder (Psalm 51). We would not pray such a prayer today.

So, if you have committed adultery, are now divorced, and are wondering how to go on with your life, understand what God accomplished for you. So no matter what the sin, realize God’s grace is greater than all your sin. You can start living under grace and experience the best that God has for you.

Practical Issues of Life: The Truth Shall Set You Free

Many times people call for help in practical matters of life, such as a spouse with eating disorders, such as Bulimia or Anorexia, a physically abusive spouse or an adulterous affair. Many times this requires biblical counseling. Not counseling of the world where someone is trying to fix the problem but where the counselor is directing people involved to the Lord Jesus Christ who alone can fix the real problems rather than just treating the symptoms. A psychiatrist may or may not even be giving the right treatment for the symptom, but in some cases, a doctor may be necessary. If there is a physical problem, such as requiring the removal of a cancerous pituitary gland, for example, then a doctor would be needed in such cases. But thinking problems are really spiritual problems that a person can get help from by consultation with a biblical counselor.

In this world we live in, of political correctness, there is a strong pull to cave into the thinking of the world. You also have television that tries to convince you how fun something is. You have the soap operas and the commercials after big events such as the Super Bowl. All these influences that tempt us to not hold onto the knowledge of the truth. But we are instructed in scripture to hold onto truth.
