Synopsis

As we grow in Christ, we start asking questions. That is what children do. But are they getting the right answers, the right nutrition to grow? It is fine if you are an infant to feed on the milk of the word, but you need to start moving on towards eating meat when the time is right. So where do you get your convictions formed? Do you believe something because your pastor says it is true or because that is what my denomination taught me since I was a child? How do you know it is true? Recall that the apostle Paul commended the people of Berea for diligently studying the scriptures to see if what he said was so.

Let us look at the teaching that is so prevalent in protestant churches about tithing being for today, and that you start giving ten percent, as so many pastors teach. Is that true for today? Where do most pastors tell you to turn to? Malachi. Have you ever read the entire chapter of Malachi 3 for yourself? Are you a descendant of Jacob? What conviction do you have that the scriptures are the word of God, are inerrant, and are applicable today as it was over 2000 years ago? Are the problems of man we face today in our lives, anxiety and depression, any different than back then, since the fall of mankind? Yes, we may have advanced technology that can cause more devastating destruction, but deep down is not the root cause of all the problems of man rely inside the heart of man? Do you think that God had a solution to our problems only in today’s world through psychology or philosophy, or that we have become so sophisticated, that we can solve our problems through science and psychology and relegate God to just our initial salvation, such as a guarantee of a new life after we die, but then He just leaves us alone for us to figure out and solve our problems on our own?

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P5 (02-16-21)

Synopsis

You cannot separate the word of God from the person of God. They are so intertwined. When God says something it is a total reflection of who He is. You cannot separate who He is from what He says. They are one and the same, unlike us. God is not like us. When someone asks us, “How are you doing?”, we say, “Fine” when we know very well we are not fine. We can be phony. God is never phony. When God speaks, it is always truth.

The scriptures are the very words of God and Jesus, who is God, quoted from His own words. When scriptures prophecy something is going to happen, it happens as recorded in the scripture. Scriptures spoke of what is going to be fulfilled in Christ long before the unfolding events happen, and those events happen just as the Word says it will happen.

Throughout His earthly ministry Jesus validated the Word of God as the absolute standard of truth. The gospels record Jesus making almost 160 quotations from or allusions to the Old Testament. Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P4 (02-15-21)

Synopsis

Why is it that we are so slow of heart to believe? I know I was, and at times, I still struggle to trust Christ to provide for my daily needs. But God initiates His love to us. That is when our hearts become softened and He gets our attention. Have you ever asked that question, “Why would God love me?” But He does.

So you have been in the religious world all your life. Then some guy comes along and tells you strange things you have never heard before. He comes right up to you and asks, “Are you saved?” You reply, “What are you talking about?” Then you hang out with these people who identify themselves as Christians. (Now, in today’s world that word has lost value and everyone calls themselves a Christian.) But, you are thinking to yourself, “Who ever calls themselves a Christian?” But you see something in them that draws you. These guys seem genuine and real. They speak often from the scriptures, explaining how this word of God has application to life. You are intrigued.

Synopsis

As you grow in knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, things you have heard before, but have not fully understood, because you were not taught correctly, you begin to understand. You begin to understand what God wants you to understand. Take the story of the prodigal son, for example. You once thought it was about a believer getting back into fellowship with God. But that cannot be true as you have come to understand the New Covenant of grace you are under today, and that the Spirit is sealed in you and will never leave you. You are either in fellowship, saved, or out of fellowship, lost. You will never find in scripture ever that someone goes in and out of fellowship.

When you think of the parable of the prodigal son, it is really a parable of the lost son, one who was dead and is now alive. It is a picture of someone who came alive. He left because he thought it would be more fun to listen to the voice of Satan than his father’s voice. In the story, he is a son of a father. Synopsis

We can be a believer and fall into all kinds of destructive lifestyle choices and become trapped in a sin. Why is that? It is because the renewing of the mind has not occurred or we stopped trusting God. For example, if you think you are still a sinner, then what would you naturally do? Sin. You do what you think you are. But God has called you out of darkness and into the kingdom of Light. You are never in darkness again. Or, you listened to the voice of the world, relied on your own understanding, followed your feelings rather than what you know to be true. There are all kinds of ways we fall short. How often do we worry? And worry is a sin. We are all working out our salvation in fear and trembling. We are saved but God is at work in us, renewing our mind, so we can walk in the new way of the Spirit.
