Resurrection

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P18 (03-17-21)

Synopsis

As was prophesied through the prophet Jeremiah, and explained more thoroughly in the book of Hebrews, we live today under a new covenant. Jeremiah and Jesus both lived under an old covenant. While Jesus was on this earth, He lived under an old covenant while speaking about a new covenant to come. He initiated a new covenant, or new will, after His death on a cross. Just as we have a will today that only goes into effect after the person living dies, so too with this new covenant Jesus spoke about, that also the writer of Hebrews explains.

The old covenant was one of law, like a tutor to those under the law until Christ should come to fulfill the law. No man could fulfill all the just requirements of the law. This law required perfection and if anyone failed at just one point, he was guilty of breaking all of it. The reason for that is because anything that does not come from faith is sin, and the wages of sin is death. Even the inward thoughts and attitudes of man are sin, such … Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus Created All Things

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P17 (03-16-21)

Synopsis

We have been reading the testimony of the bible concerning itself. As you read through the pages, you cannot but help notice a divine author, the testimony of Jesus Himself, who is the living word who came down from heaven, who speaks into the hearts of men. You cannot separate the word of God from the person of God. And if Jesus is who He claims to be, God, and the divine author, then what is written through these pages is true.

So all those people and events we read about in the scriptures are true, whether from the Old Testament or the New Testament. Not only are they true, but they testify of what will be accomplished in and through the person of Jesus Christ. For example, the prophet Jeremiah testified of a new covenant that will come after a certain period of time in history. We are now living under that new covenant today. As history unfolded, we discovered that Jesus fulfilled all that was spoken of through the prophets concerning Himself. Jesus Himself testified of these people and events. He Himself said He … Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Faith in Jesus is What Counts

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P16 (03-15-21)

Synopsis

As you read through chapter eleven in the book of Hebrews, you will read about several Old Testament people and events that happened during their lifetime. We read about these men of faith, some that conquered kingdoms and others that were conquered for the cause of Christ, some were strong and did great exploits whereas others were sawed in two or wandered around in holes in the ground. But all of them were commended for their faith.

So you ask yourself, why would the writer of Hebrews think it important to write about these people and events? Certainly he believed they were real people and real events. Then you also have the apostles Peter and Paul also writing and referencing people and events, and sometimes the same people and the same events. Did they think they were real people and real events? What about their enemies? Did they think they were real people and real events? As you ponder over these things, you must conclude they were real people and real, and not fairy tales.

There were real events recorded in the Old Testament and substantiated … Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

What is Faith

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P15 (03-10-21)

Synopsis

The purpose of this lesson is to enable you and me to realize that the book we hold in our hands, both old and new, is a book that was dictated out of the very heart of God Himself. As we read about what the prophets wrote down, realize that they were dictated to them by God. We read that from the prophet Jeremiah 30:1-2, what he testifies where He got the words from. These words we read in the scriptures are of divine origin. With so much testimony, the conclusion to me is evident, that the scriptures we hold in our hands truly is from God.

We also have the testimony of the New Testament that would refer back to Old Testament people and events. That testimony itself gives validity to the fact that the New Testament writers believed the Old Testament scriptures came from God. And even more so, Jesus Himself quoted from the Old Testament scriptures, giving an analogy for spiritual truth for us to grab a hold of today. For example, do not fail to enter the Sabbath rest. There is now … Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

God is Creator We are Responders

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P14 (03-09-21)

Synopsis

When we are talking about the validity of Old Testament events, which certainly adds to the validity of the Old Testament itself, it all gets back again to one simple question Jesus asked, “Who do you say that I am?” Because if Jesus is who He is, God, and He said there is a Sodom and a Gomorrah then there was a Sodom and a Gomorrah

As you read the account of Sodom and Gomorrah, something striking you will notice. Fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. That is why archaeologists have never found those two cities that were destroyed by God. That adds to the validity of the scriptures. Archaeologists have found almost everything else recorded in the scriptures but they never found Sodom and Gomorrah.

But as you read these different accounts, do not just simply believe that this event happened or not, for that has no relevance to how you live your life. But take note of the analogy Jesus used in referring to these events in regard to His judgment on mankind. Jesus is pointing to a future … Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

We Were Reconciled to God

Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P612 (02-26-21)

Synopsis

Many callers, as they are growing in Christ, as we all are, have questions. If you have been in Christ for some time now, there are certain questions that are commonly asked, which if you do not understand the context or the difference between law and grace or the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant, some passages might be confusing to you.

This is certainly true of those who grew up under some kind of religious teaching where foundational truths were not taught. Oftentimes people are taught to memorize certain passages of scripture as a child, such as through an AWANA program or some other church program for youth. The problem with scripture memory is if the passages before and after a memory verse are not read, or not understood in its context, false teaching occurs. So, in many cases, a renewing of the mind has to occur so people can grab a hold of truth.

One of the questions asked in relation to the Lord’s prayer is this. Will God forgive us if we do not forgive someone who sins against us? People also often recite … Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
