As we grow in Christ, we start asking questions. That is what children do. But are they getting the right answers, the right nutrition to grow? It is fine if you are an infant to feed on the milk of the word, but you need to start moving on towards eating meat when the time is right. So where do you get your convictions formed? Do you believe something because your pastor says it is true or because that is what my denomination taught me since I was a child? How do you know it is true? Recall that the apostle Paul commended the people of Berea for diligently studying the scriptures to see if what he said was so.

Let us look at the teaching that is so prevalent in protestant churches about tithing being for today, and that you start giving ten percent, as so many pastors teach. Is that true for today? Where do most pastors tell you to turn to? Malachi. Have you ever read the entire chapter of Malachi 3 for yourself? Are you a descendant of Jacob? All of us struggle with all kinds of things in this fallen flesh of ours. It is good to know the mercy and grace of God. No matter what you are going through, there is hope in God. What a blessing it is when you have someone to talk to, who has been through what you are going through, and has learned to overcome the flesh by the power of the Holy Spirit, having had his mind renewed with truth.

Whether you are struggling with depression or in the process of going through a divorce, there is practical wisdom in Christ to deal with these struggles. So many people call in and ask questions about salvation. They are often confused by what they hear in their particular denomination or various preachers on television. Again, it is so important to rely on the holy spirit to reveal truth to you through the scriptures He has given to us through the prophets and apostles, who were eyewitnesses, when Jesus was alive walking on this earth. Ultimately, that is where truth has to come, from the Spirit of God in Jesus, who Himself is God in the flesh.

So often we hear from people that you can lose your salvation or that you have to do something to keep yourself right with God, or you have to be obedient to the law so as to keep in God’s grace or to do some religious practice to get more grace. All of that is simply not true. If anyone says you can lose your salvation then they do not know what salvation is. If anyone says that salvation depends on what you do then he does not understand salvation. Synopsis

In this world, we can begin to see terrible events unfold. We can certainly see clearly this conflict between good and evil. The degree of that will depend, to some extent, what exposure you have to sources of information concerning current world events, for there is also so much fake news and misinformation.

Nevertheless, we tend to see these horrible things happening as something unusual, yet the Lord tells us that evildoers will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. We tend to forget what the Lord has told us, and can let ourselves be overcome with fear. But God tells us to keep our focus on Him, to continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of. Of all people, we, as children of God, should hold out hope. We should testify of the hope we have within us. We should be full of joy and peace, as we allow God, who is living in us, to bear that fruit in our lives.

Synopsis

Many callers ask questions that reveal the lack of understanding of what salvation is. Bob shares from the scriptures to help people understand what salvation really is. Many people think you can lose your salvation. If you think that, then you do not really know what salvation is. Salvation is being saved from the consequence of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is life. Many other people think salvation is getting your sins forgiven. Others think that you have to ask God for forgiveness when you sin. All such questions means that people have not understood the totality of the cross, what Jesus meant when He said, “It is finished!”, or that salvation is life, of being made complete in Christ.

Salvation is receiving new spiritual life. Getting sins forgiven is something Jesus alone did, when He shed His blood on a cross. He will not shed his blood again, and as we read in Hebrews, there is no forgiveness without the shedding of blood. Jesus’ death on a cross was a necessary preparation for life to be given. Synopsis

We all struggle in growing in Christ, learning how to overcome worry and all kinds of sin, and how to make wise decisions in those difficult things of life. Much of our struggle is because we are leaning on our understanding, trying to work things out in the energy of our flesh, or are focusing, not on Christ, but our circumstances and surroundings, and letting the voice of the world crowd out truth. Our mind has drifted from focusing on Christ to the thinking and pattern of the world.

It also takes time to grow. When you first come to Christ, it seems hard to navigate through the word of God and through the things you hear. You may not have the discernment yet to know what is right and what is wrong or what is the better choice. At times, you just do not know the truth, or lack the wisdom from God to know how to proceed. Yes, it is good to hear from mature believers in the Lord, to help you out.
