People in all backgrounds are looking for purpose and meaning in life, whether you were brought up in a religious background or were in the habit of rejecting God, calling yourself an atheist. But there comes a time where you realize that this yearning in your heart for acceptance and love is not working. In that process, you hear a message about Christ or you pick up a bible and start reading. There you learn that Christ is the answer all along.

As you are getting your mind renewed, you may be confused for a while, because, if you came from a religious background, you are beginning to wonder about what you had been taught. Things just do not make sense. A pastor commits adultery. That in itself is alarming to you, when he is supposed to be a believer, and believers are not supposed to do that,and certainly not a pastor, whom you are relying on. Another pastor is preaching about tithing. And you are not even sure if that is what you are supposed to be doing or not. The church you grew up in never mentioned tithing. Sometimes we can get off focus on what is really important in life, what God has called us to do in regard to being fishers of men, to reach out with love and truth for the souls of men. We can spend endless hours trying to figure out end time prophecies, and as interesting as that might be, the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Yes, we should read Revelation and not avoid it, but everything in proper perspective. God’s word certainly tells us that anyone who reads the words of the prophecy and takes it to heart what is written in it is blessed. So He certainly wants us to read it with that in mind. God wants us prepared but not scared.

Then there is our neighbor or relative who does not know Christ. If you got a call from a friend, who at one time in his life rejected God, or even mocked the things of God, but all of a sudden there is a change in attitude in him. If you have ever seen someone come to know the Lord for the first time, and had the privilege to share about Jesus to them, family or friends, then you can tell about what joy and delight that is to see. Maybe you have never seen anyone in your family or even any friend come to the Lord, but you are sharing the word of God. We have to trust in God that when His word goes out, it does not return void. For some of you, that could be twenty or more years, and still you see no fruit of the labor. Nevertheless, we leave it in the hands of God. To God belong the results, in His timing. We do not need to force the message. It is a practical message, that man is dead and in need of life, with a message of great news, that Jesus provided that need of life as a gift to be received by faith, yet it can take time for people to process, some longer than others. Synopsis

As was prophesied through the prophet Jeremiah, and explained more thoroughly in the book of Hebrews, we live today under a new covenant. Jeremiah and Jesus both lived under an old covenant. While Jesus was on this earth, He lived under an old covenant while speaking about a new covenant to come. He initiated a new covenant, or new will, after His death on a cross. Just as we have a will today that only goes into effect after the person living dies, so too with this new covenant Jesus spoke about, that also the writer of Hebrews explains.

The old covenant was one of law, like a tutor to those under the law until Christ should come to fulfill the law. No man could fulfill all the just requirements of the law. This law required perfection and if anyone failed at just one point, he was guilty of breaking all of it. The reason for that is because anything that does not come from faith is sin, and the wages of sin is death. Sometimes we get bogged down in our daily lives, being bombarded with legalism or teaching that just weighs us down. The day to day mundane things we do just seems to weigh us down at times. But to know that the time we ourselves get alone with the Lord, letting Him teach us the meaning of the word of God, and see the work God is doing in us. Then, as we simply share truth that has been revealed to us, that truth not only changes our own lives, but it overflows into the lives of others. That makes living so worthwhile.

Listen as Bob George shares with a young seminary student getting bogged down in his studies in theology that seems to distract him from being taught by the Holy Spirit. At times even, incorrect teaching is being told him, and he also feels this push towards legalism. Bob shares truth with him to help him to keep focused on being taught of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Has Taken Away Your Sins Once For All

What is the purpose of the book of Hebrews? Have you ever heard a sermon on it? It is so valuable to understand the New Covenant we are living under today. Oftentimes the only passage people have heard about from Hebrews are Hebrews 6:4, and without understanding the entire context of what the author of Hebrews is writing about, people get all fearful that they are deliberately sinning, meaning they have committed one of the nasty nine or one of the dirty dozen, that they are going to be cast into a raging fire. So what do people do? They pull out their 1 John 1:9 and ask God to forgive them of their sins.

First of all, one must understand the totality of the cross. When the Jew is going back to the day of atonement, killing a bull or a goat, to get his sins forgiven, or the Catholic is going to the confessional booth to get his sins forgiven, or the Protestant is going direct to God to get his sins forgiven, quoting 1 John 1:9 out of context, what are they doing?
