Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 10 (04-22-19)

Bob resumes the study of the gospel of John. He is currently teaching from John chapter 3 where Nicodemus meets Jesus at night and Jesus explains to him what it means to be born again of the Spirit of God. This is one of the most important chapters because it teaches us how to enter a brand new relationship with Christ Jesus. We not only come to him to be our Lord and Savior but also to be our teacher.

Bob interviewed with Jim Armstrong when he was graduating from college. They made an offer and Bob accepted their offer to be trained by them. He was not trained by Ford Motor company but by Jim Armstrong. There was an agreement to be trained by them. Bob came to be trained by them. The same thing is true with Jesus. You and I, born again in Christ Jesus, have come to be trained and equipped by Jesus to have our minds renewed and for Jesus to be our source of everything we do. You and I have come to be trained.

These callers called in to the original People to People radio program Bob George was on for over 30 years. Most of the questions were to get clarification of truth on some commonly misunderstood passages of scripture. Laurie asked, “Where do you place Melchizedek in Hebrews 6:16?” Oftentimes by simply reading the verses before and after a scripture that is unclear to you, you can discern what is important to understand in a passage. We often want to focus on a very narrow point rather than get the spiritual truth that Jesus wants you to know. Bob emphasized that Hebrews is about explaining the superiority of Jesus Christ. To the Jew, there is no one greater than Abraham. Hebrews clears this matter up by explaining that Melchizedek is greater than Abraham and Jesus s greater than everyone.

Edwin asked a very common question, typical of those who are new believers or those improperly instructed from religious teaching. He asked what is the difference between baptism of water and baptism of the Holy Spirit. By studying the scriptures the answer is very clear. Bob George received a call from Jim who simply asked if love is more important than faith. Bob answered from scripture that love indeed is greater than faith because love is from God and God is love. God initiated love to us and we respond to that love in faith. So faith is man’s response to love. Do we accept his love or do we reject it? Do we even understand that love? Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love.

Bob George also received a call from a young college lady, Lynn, who had found herself in an unwanted situation. She had committed fornication and is now pregnant. She wanted to know if abortion was wrong. Bob graciously shared truth with her, that abortion indeed is the sin of murder. Bob graciously provided practical advice and explained the truth of God’s unconditional love toward her. He shared such practical wisdom to help her make choices in line with who she is as a born again believer. God created life and this child she has was a life God intended to live. Bob George shares about the peace of God that surpasses understanding. There is no peace for the wicked. If you are enslaved in sin you do not have peace. Come to Christ to get his peace. Let His peace reign in your heart by faith. As a child of God, if you are choosing to live in sin, then you are not experiencing His peace. Put your faith in the one who died for you to take all your sins away, never to be seen again in the eyes of God. Put your faith in Christ to receive his resurrected life. When you do, you can walk in the life of the Holy Spirit living in you, who is your counselor and comforter. Therefore, keep your eyes on Him. Do not let yourself be anxious but talk to him along life’s way for you will certainly experience tribulation. As you trust Him, your life will be changed as your mind is renewed. Bob George shared a message titled, “Are you prepared or are you scared?” Christianity is not a crisis relationship, but is a relationship based on preparation. Then Bob explains the armor of God, from Ephesians 6, the training equipment of a believer to stand in faith in the power of God and the strength of his might against the evil schemes of the god of this world, who is Satan. A believer is someone born again of the Spirit of God. From John 3, Bob shares what it means to be born again from above, as he continues sharing from the gospel of John. He will be sharing from John 3, where Nicodemus comes to meet Jesus at night.

Bob George continues sharing truth from the gospel of John. Bob titled this message, “Are you prepared or are you scared?”

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but fear not [or be of good cheer] ; I have overcome the world.

It is not if you will have tribulation but when you will have tribulation. Each of us will face one or two or more tribulations. But rapture or death will come to all men. To many of us, death will come first. You will be absent from the Lord or separated from Him forever. If separated from God in death, then you will be in a place of eternal damnation along with Satan and his demons.

In this world you are going to have tribulation. Many people spend much time preparing for the things of this world. As you get older, there are those who prepare for retirement?
